I didn't read the rest of the list. I only liked the article because instead of saying Shenmue sucks and was boring or something this was because SEGA trolled us into thinking another was on the way.

I actually think it' superb.
The hair in the back of my neck is always risen when the huge mirrors are revealed and Shenhua declaims the poem.
The fact we still haven't got Shenmue III has nothing to do with the quality of the ending and the whole last third of Shenmue II.

I don't think anyone (here) would argue that. It's all about context. In a vacuum, the ending is great, with the promise of a continued story. But in the cold light of day, a decade later, it's that broken promise that obviously now sticks in the craw. We all agree that's not a fault in the ending's design though.

In my opinion the job of an ending of a game with a continue is to make the player want to play the next part. And Shenmue 2 really did that job for 10 YEARS! So many people still want shenmue 3.

Agree. 100%. Even when the article says that, i can not take it. I mean, when you finish Shenmue part 1 it's that, finished part 1 not the whole game, damn it! Then how can they say it's one of the worst? Bitc... please...! To hell with them.
