Here are videos featuring Yuan's original voice. I asked wude to swap out the female voice and in it's place put back in the male voice. He changed some of the subtitles with Ryo and Ren, to the effect that both refer to Yuan as a "he/him".

I would have prefered this to be the version we got in the west.

Even in Europe, the japanese voice was changed. Strange.

I played through the Japanese version once just to hear this voice too... lol
Only in Japan can a transvestite cross dresser be accepted enough to, for example, be on tv game/talk shows. Even though this came out 10 years ago I think its still pretty taboo to have this in a game..in the U.S atleast.

If they re do the series i hope they have Yuan as a he. It was the original plan after all.

Yeah the voice in Shenmue II DC PAL has a womans japanese voice actress. So they recorded 2 different voices for Yuan in japan, a male and a female? Kind of makes you wonder if them trying to hide this fact may have been what led to the japanese with english subtitles, DC version to never come out in America. Perhaps Yuan and shis vagenis prevented us from getting this game the way it was meant to be played. DAMN VAGENISES!!!

I guess I never took into account that they actually changed Yuan's voice over as well. I know this sounds ignorant, but I think she sounds more like you'd expect a transvestite to sound in the PAL version, when she is actually a woman. Of course, it can't be assumed that transgendered people alter their voice or sound more like their assumed sex by default.

I didn't watch the entire video, but I do recall something from a while back. does Ren really say "Looks like a woman...talks like a woman....has a dick" in reference to Yuan? I'll have to watch later when I have time.
