Ryo's a time traveler

Why is it after you learn about the chaiwan sign from that lady guishang (holy shit i cant spell her name) its 11 30 pm? i go to her apartment immediately after carrying books that morning and then when ryo leaves its 11 30 pm and i have to go to bed. why is this?

The game forces you to go to sleep at Xiuying's place at the Da Yuan Appartments one last time so you'll get the cutscene with the photo of Xiuying and Ziminig when they were young. If the game wouldn't skip time you could potentially continue the story so far that you don't have to sleep there anymore.

If you take it slower and go to the Da Yuan Appartments on your own after 8 pm earlier in the story then you'll trigger the cutscene yourself. And then when you go to Guixang the game will not skip to the end of the day after you've learned the Chawan Sign.

Lol my brother used to say that as he had this bizarre theory that Ryo in the future is actually Lan Di, and Lan Di comes into the present to kill his own father for putting a right to killing that man in moonswoong(?). He backs this theory with Ryo and Lan Di having a facial scar in the same place.

...and yes, my brother is indeed crazy (and neither did he finish the game!) :-o

Lol yes they do. The both have scars on their left cheeks. Ryo's scar is from a training accident with a sword when he was a little kid and we don't know what Lan Di's scar is from. People have some pretty crazy theories. Hell I've heard of one where someone legitimately thinks Lan Di is Ryo's father. Some people think there are reasons for Ryo and Lan Di having scars in similar places, but we all have our own opinions and ideas about sooo much regarding Shenmue. I just HAD to click on this topic just because I was like...wtf O.o?

Hehe, yeah, me too.

I don't have any wild theories about Ryo and Lan Di, just never noticed those scars before. Well, since I haven't played Shenmue in a long time now I want to do it again soon. Unfortunately, I can't start any earlier than in two weeks from now. Will definitely watch for those scars, haha.

Its an ad for some clinic. I don't know the percentage of people that get it done, but Japanese seem to have some weird obsession with "phimosis". Some weird foreskin related penis condition. I had never heard about it until I started studying Japanese hardcore.
