Why I Think Shenmue 2x is better

Most people tend to love the DC version right? Well im not here to argue with anyone but I seriously love the Xbox version to bits. Why you may say. Its because its the first version that I ever played fully and finished the game. I have a strong feeling that if I had played the DC version first. I would not of understood the story as better. Second of all I actually like the brightness and colour heavy smoothing Shenmue 2x has to offer. I find the DC versiont to be more colourless and dull. Sorry but thats just me... I also only play it on 360. Thats what I finished it on too my first time by the way. The voice acting.. honesly its not too bad. Its similar to the first game and is hilariously good. Argue with me if you must. I will tell you as politely as I can whh Shenmue 2 on xbox is better then dcs since I see it that way. Yeah so I really do not understand why dc version has so much love. I get the feeling that people just defend it because they love the dc better.

Dreamcast has the nostalgia factor, plus Shenmue fans can play the entire series on one console "as it was meant to be".

I agree with you, I like the game better in its native language. Though I do wish I could continue my NTSC Shenmue I save into an NTSC Shenmue II. I know you can do it with a PAL Shenmue II, but I do wish it would have lived on the DC.

It may have the nostalgia factor on the DC but are you trying to say that the Xbox version feels different and more modern?

The Xbox has quite a lot of advantages but it's not all well here and they could've done a better job when they ported the game. I don't think the English dub is terrible, just hastly recorded with bored actors.
The biggest sign to me, that they just didn't put a lot of time and effort into the port.

The slightly shortened load times, 10 save slots the ability to skip more cutscenes (even the most minor things like elevator rides) and especially the improved real time shadows speak for it. It also has Dolby Digital support but as I stated in a thread around here, the surround experience is pretty unimpressive.

What brings it down is the motion blur during fights and QTEs and the overall blurry image of the Xbox.
They also messed up parts of the music. Like using the wrong tune when Ryo gets off the boat in Guilin or just ruined volume levels and instruments like Stand Qr. at night or Beverly Hills Wharf.

I don't know why you say the DC version looks dull and muted. Have you played it with a VGA box?
To me the Dreamcast's image is the exact opposite of what you describe. It's vibrant, sharp and just popping.

Im sad to say that the 360 actually does a pretty bad job of representing how the Xbox version looks.
The bloom during the night, the blur during fights and QTE's, it's all gone. To me personaly that's not a bad thing, especially the latter, because it brings the image much more in line with the Dreamcast version.
Also it's a LOT sharper as the original Xbox had a very filtered and blurred video output.
But it also gets rid of the shadows completely and that's a really bad thing, especially considering how improved they are in this version. And then there's the constant bug with the music fading away.

Maybe you've seen them already but I have videos where I compare a whole bunch of cutscenes between the various systems side by side. They are pretty good to see just how different the image output looks on those systems.

On a CRT tube TV. S2x on an original Xbox looks best. But on a HDTV the DC version through VGA is just plain visually better. If it wasnt for that fact id play S2x alot more then the DC version cause it does have alot of benifits. But to me graphics in a game like Shenmue is one of the most important things.

Also the DC version helps me learn more Japanese which helps considering I live in Japan.

Love both versions for their own merits though and glad we have options.

Well if you're playing on 360 you're not exactly playing the xbox version since there's no bloom.

Nah, just that the Dreamcast automatically feels more nostalgic since it was a console no longer supported. The Xbox version was new. I don't know, hard to explain...

You know what? Id say Shenmue 2 on the Dreamcast is better now. The japanese voices are too good in comparison. I was watching BlueMue's vids.

If you played it on Xbox 360 then you got rid of the awful overbloom and all the baseline all over the screen the original xbox has.

The Dreamcast version looks ultra crisp compared to the Xbox version due this.

Then how do you know they don't suffer from the same "lack of quality" of the English voices?

If you play on 360 you also get no shadows and glitchy music.
