Bike riding animation still in shenmue.

I thought this was pretty cool. the MOT file for the bike riding is still in shenmue 2, i dont know about shenmue 1 yet though, but i would assume so. i tried replacing that motion over the regular walking but it froze.. i wonder if there is any way to trigger this back into the game, it seems impossible though. i dont understand why this was taken out. unless they were saving it for later.

The file CANNOT be useless... When you program a game you don´t just leave unused files on the disc, don´t you? Or did the game have 3 discs because they just forgot to delete all unnecessary files?????

No, they MUST have thought something when they left the file...

It was in early pictures of the game but it seems that later on they took it out of the game and our very own LanDC has now discovered that the file is still there.

I think it might just be there as some sort of a cookie or easter egg or whatever you want to call it.

the only way i can see you could access it is maybe with one of these code discs you enter cheat codes in but you would need the code .

^ somehow I doubt it's actually runnable. I mean code-wise.
Even you had a cheat code I doubt it'd do anything.

might it be in there for other characters in the game to be riding bikes? I know there are people in the first one riding bikes but i cant seem to remember anyone in S2 riding a bike! The VHS What's Shenmue shows Ryo riding a bike, i so wish they left that in the full release!

it will probably be in shenmue 3. ryo will probably use it to go up hills or something

Mabye they took it out becuase they thought the area to cycle in was a bit too small or becuase there wasn't a large distance to cycle anyway.

Look at the second picture on this site:

The description of the picture, which shows Ryo riding a bike, explains that this is a scene that was cut from the retail version of Shenmue II.
That would explain why the bike riding animation was still on the disc but unused.

Oh, the first picture shows a development version of a street corner in the South Carmain Qr. that became a dead end in the retail game. Of course, the description teases you by wondering what was beyond that corner before Sega decided to remove whatever was beyond it and replaced the corner with a dead end.
