Sega teases Shenmue HD release on XBLA/PSN

Well considering it was outsourced to some chinese studios and Sega didnt really invest much into it at all, it made sense to be used as a cash cow. Im indifferent about Shenmue Online. It was a waste of time at the most.

Wasn't a total loss. We did get some music that was intended for the game.

Not read the second link and just want to say. It is by fans. But that's true of any hardcore fans of any series. That's ok. does not take away from it was groundbreaking and a really good series with some flaws but nothing is perfect. Still one of the most ambitious series ever made.Game still hold a lot of charm and do a few things games are still missing.

I've always felt Shenmue Online was hugely misunderstood. Peeps bring it up every so often crying "why dident they just maek Shenmoo 3?" failing to realise that it was a licensed game, not part of the actual series. Before DigitalRex got involved, JCE already had an agreement to develop an MMO for SEGA. As they were fans of the games and the license was available (due to the series being "on hiatus" at the time) JCE were given access to everything Shenmue, including Yu Suzuki himself, who was believed to be more of an advisor than anything (yes, this was the beginning of SEGA sending him to Applied Sciences - a dead end)

But yeah, an MMO originating from JCE was happening regardless. It was never in place of Shenmue III at all, and I'm pretty damn certain that without the Shenmue name or Yu's involvement (which was instrumental in DigitalRex picking up the pieces) the game itself would've been cancelled a hell of a lot earlier.

Yeah when they first showed ti off and this is back when it was first shown off and later removed them I think. One guy was massive and monkey or ape like and over 10 feet tall. One guy top half was human and bottom half was spider. There was also debate because the trailer showed fireballs. Later they revised it and Ziming hated the look with this little girl and looked fisher price so he had a funny Shenmue Online Fisher Price sig

Monkey man thing was filmed off screen in the audience if I remember right. Spider Man was a pic shown again taken off screen with a cell phone or something. Not seen them since they were posted on SD 8-9 years ago.
