For ten years I've been checking these forums for snippets of information about Shenmue 3. I have every reason to believe I'll still be here in 2021, reading about the possibility of Shenmue 3

You guys think that Yu hasn't pushed to release the continuing story of Shenmue III in any form because he still thinks the possibility of a video game is on the table? Or is it simply a matter of rights and Sega's ownership?

Probably the possibility of a video game still. Its what he does, makes games. But he has to realize that if he knows deep down in his heart that the game probably isn't going to happen to tell us the rest of the story some other way, unless of course Sega does own the rights to the story.

I feel pretty bad for Yu. You can tell that he has just as much passion for Shemue 3 being made as we do, if not more. Hes basically like a Hollywood director that was huge and then made a movie that tanked. Now his career is more or less sunk, his reputation ruined.

His rep isn't ruined. It's just no one even knows he exists anymore.

People know, they don't seem to care much, beyond his fanbase.

It seems that the industry is finally opening some doors to him (Premium Agency, anyway) and this last couple of years the media have finally remembered him.

You can't ruin the rep of a man with such an important legacy.

I hope the project he's working on with Premium is another step on a modest return to the medium.

Fingers crossed!

Does this plus the sudden cancellation announcement of Shenmue City destroy all hopes for a Shenmue 3? I think it kind of does but I still have hope that Shenmue 3 will still be made. Also, I probably am not going to participate in the next console generation since I have had a whole lot of trouble with this generation but if Shenmue 3 does come out in the next generation of consoles, then I will buy the console it will be on as well as two to three copies of Shenmue 3.

Shenmue Gai isn't cancelled.

Yeah, I heard that it is getting a second season or chapter. I just hope that with the end of the first season, they could use that material for a western release or something.
