Why would Sega have to ok this? This is basically just a glorified lecture, like a TED talk or something. Any use of Shenmue imagery would probably be covered under fair-use.

That it is Birty.

Rakim, I dunno, just with Sega never wanting Shenmue to ever really appear in the public eye, I just assume they would need to give some sort of permission for You to do this event and/or use footage from what technically is their product, and not Suzuki's himself.

I've been watching a let's play shenmue on youtube to remember how shenmue was as when i first played it as a 11 year old kid,and i have to be honest with myself that it really hasn't aged all that well,it's not just the textures but the long long times, tank controls, laughable English voice acting with terrible lip syncing.

I hope they don't just release a up ressed version of shenmue I &II because i think it will ultimately leave newcomers of the franchise (which would account for like 95%) with a bad first impression of the series but it would seriously hamper a release of a third.

The final fantasy x hd remaster that's coming out early next year looks to be decent but i think FFX has aged considerably better than shenmue.

So here's hoping for a full remake/reboot for the series,I know this is probably a long shot but seeing as Yu had a interview with David cage of Heavy rain and beyond:two souls fame that maybe he could be in on the project?

The Dark sorcererhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BqeuHGESZBA tech demo running on the ps4 looked pretty dam good to me,imagine shenmue envisioned with that kind of fidelity... \:D/

It has to be good news, I would certainly hope that he hasn't waited until March to deliver bad news like we will never see Shenmue 3, that will really be evil in its purest form, I'm sure if we are being told that we will get some talk of Shenmue at the GDC it has to be positive.

They're not promising news of any kind (good or bad), just a behind-the-scenes look at the development process of a game that broke new ground, so that other game developers (at a game developers conference) can apply what Yu learned to their own careers, while fans get a cool insight to a cult classic.

Obviously the topic of Shenmue III will be brought up, otherwise it would be a gigantic elephant in the room, but Yu doesn't have to say anything more about that than he has in the past. If he does provide us with new information on the game's future it will be a bonus, and not something he's obliged to do just because of this industry-focused retrospective.

I don't expect any news from the conference. And if there is news I think it would be the release of the remastered originals. But this will be great publicity and get people talking.

I was thinking about this earlier, I know we shouldn't expect anything but I'm going to be gutted if nothings announced. At least the presentation should be good.

Date and time announced:

Wednesday, March 19th from 2pm to 3pm.

San Francisco will be in the PDT (Pacific Daylight) time zone, so that start time equates to 5pm EST or 9pm GMT (as the UK won't enter daylight savings until later in the month).

EDIT: Had been basing this on PST, when it will actually be PDT by the time the conference arrives.
