All you heads that think Shenmue 3 is going to be announced on March 19th are completely mad. Completely mad. Temper those expectations!

I just hope the first 45 minutes isn't the typical Shenmue story.

Yu "Sega wanted a killer title on dreamcast etc

Yu "Virtua fighter rpg" etc

Yu "Saturn was a prototype" etc

Im hoping this conference will be pack full of new information. Hopefully there will be a QnA at the end, with some questions directed towards Cerny and the future of Shenmue on PS4.

I'm really starting to feel like the stars are aligning. First we have the infamous shot of Yu Suzuki and Mark Cerny together. Next we have Sony's #buildingthelist which I think was back around August-September 2013. It's had a ton of Shenmue requests. Gio Corsi seems to be heading that up and was asking people to send in their requests. Then you've got a Kotaku interview with Sony's Adam Boyes on Nov. 12:

Boyes: I think a lot—we get a ton of requests for Yakuza, a ton of requests for Shenmue. We see the lists. Like everything that people have tweeted Gio, literally we have a person that compiles those lists and prioritizes based on how many requests we've gotten. And I think to date there's well over 10,000 mentions across like forum threads and stuff like that. So those are the ones we're focused on.

So they admit they're focused on the Yakuzas and the Shenmues of the list. Then two weeks later on Nov. 26 we have an announcement about the postmortem scheduled for March. And last week we learned that the Playstation magazine is teasing a series "of massive significance." It could just be hype to keep people watching but "massive significance" should really be a term saved for game announcements that are just that: massive and significant. And now, just a few days ago we read Gio Corsi's tweet:

#buildingthelist won't announce games until they're real. No false promises, no lies, only real talk. News coming, be ready! #PlayStation

I don't want to say the word "predict" but I sure hope we'll get an announcement within the next couple of weeks and then have the postmortem for more details. If the announcement doesn't happen within the next couple of months though I think that'll be it for hopes of a sequel. Because I can't think of a time when Shenmue has had so much buzz. And if we get no announcement hopefully we'll at least have a great postmortem.

I actually think the time has come, I have only recently registered as a member her to speak of the matter, I bought Shenmue when it came out, and then Shenmue 2, and have (like all others) been waiting for the 3rd.

I haven't been around, I mean, I've signed a few Shenmue 3 petitions, but apart from that have never expected the 3rd game to have a chance of creation during this long period of absense, but recently, I've noticed a build up and sudden breath of life, there always seems to be some type of story about Shenmue on the new websites, the Save shenmue campaign, and all the palava with Yu Suzuki and Sony, the postmortem etc etc...

All I can say is if we don't see Shenmue 3 after all this, then I'll be quite disappointed, I've even decided to replay both games just to get back in the mood, I made the choice of booting up the old DC and it was a good decision, I'd forgot just how great shenmue was...

so yeah, it's now or never...

I want to play the first two again but if they're going to release HD remakes or something I'd rather wait until they're released so they'll still feel newish to me.

Well, what do you know! Welcome.
I read the NeoGAF forums quite often and recognized that avatar immediately. I always found it great to see that there was some Shenmue support out there, besides this place.

And indeed, considering how much of a fan you seem to be it's surprising that you didn't sign up here earlier :P

Welcome too. I agree, it really feels as if something should come out of this. Even if it is just those HD-versions of the games.
