well i hope they do announce the 3rd game, because i just hate things that get left just like that.

ive only just recently replayed thru shenmue 1 & 2, and ive just reached disc 4 on shenmue 2 today and im coming to the same position i was in about a decade ago, i've intentionally got stuck into the game just to be disappointed again, and it's a fucking awesome game, everything from the story to the way its presented, visually and all, even though it's not technically a huge open world, it leads you to believe the whole world is out there, like now im in guillin, even though im on a set path and cant really explore anywhere but that set path, i still get the impression that im in a vast rural area, even though i cannot explore everywhere, i dont need to if you get my drift.

well anyway, i cant wait to meet shenhua and make my way up the mountain and through the forest once again, only to get stuck in a cave and literally reach a dead end but oh well, thats shenmue...

ah i dont know, i guess life is unfair.

just to add, i think it's got to the stage now, where if Yu Suzuki KNOWS full well, and by that i mean with absolute certainty that shenmue 3 will never, ever, in a million fucking years never... become a video game, then at least give us the rest of the story via manga, and if he can't even find the means to have that done, then just give us the script for us to read and at least let us build the picture in our heads, because i'd rather that than nothing. its a annoying to have a story just get blown away in the wind, he even has the story completed, and truthfully, i really only want to experience it via computer game, not in any other form, but when it comes to last resorts anything will have to do.

Yeah the feeling of shenmue,of search and wonder hasn't as far as im aware ever been recreated in any other game since shenmue has been released.

I wouldn't categorise shenmue being a life simulator but in terms of having a true to life experience of a 3d world no game has come close as than shenmue,i think it's the slow pace of the game and the fact that Yu designed it with the element of being true to the setting of the time.

Also chris i can agree with you that if Yu had gave up all hope himself why hasn't he told shenmue fans of the conclusion that we long for,i think it's absolutely unheard of for a movie or other game that ended on such a cliff hanger to never of been completed or leaked,it's amazing that nothing has leaked and we still really don't know anything more after all these years as to what happens after the floating sword cave scene.

Although isn't it incredibly worrying as to how if shenmue 3 was released how it would of really turned out?We know from the shenmue online CGI cut scene that the world of shenmue totally changes and it takes a turn towards the supernatural, people charging 'chi' throwing fireballs of something DBZ style, floating swords and massive rising dragons (that come out of the stone mirrors?) i mean there is alot of significant changes there that Might not of translated well into gameplay,im guessing that the chapters that take place after shenmue II's conclusion will be so different and action orientated that maybe the feeling of the first two titles that we love will be dramatically different?

From what i gather, all hell breaks loose after shenhua transforms and thunder and destruction rain down on what i guess is guilin or some other village in china, lan di seems to be able to control the dragon mirror whilst shenhua controls the phenox mirror, now try to imagine some of those things happening whilst in game, being able to mix the realism of shenmue with the new supernatural elements,i wouldn't worry about it being a problem on a next generation system like the ps4 but if Yu original plan was to release part 3 on the dreamcast i don't think it would of provided enough power to fully envision the later chapters of the shenmue saga.

Ok, it's official I'll be there- and I can possibly get in the room where Suzuki will deliver his talk, and plans (?)

-PS shoot me any questions / ideas / suggestion you might have in case I get any chance to do for you.

I've already got some ideas, but still planning (I like to team up with David, Segata to do something).

If you're coming to GDC- feel free to hit me up, best way to reach me is facebook:

Simply search [email protected] on the search- the guy with ? pic (if I don't change) is me!

Thank you all- and can't wait.

Well, i don't expect it to be as supernatural as people think. Ok the sword may float in the cave, but hopefully they can try and think of some logical way as to how. But the way the lights appear of the phoenix mirror when yuanda zhu blows the smoke above it in the light is a bit unusual, bit still, it's not way out there. I gather that, the way the lights shine together from both mirrors reveal some sort of location where they can find the treasures they talk about.

to me shenmue is all about exploring the rel life locations, and story telling and character development plays a bitg role so meeting new people and spending time with them also is a part of shenmue i like, the fighting of course, and revelations, like finding out the answers to stuff. Like for example, they pendant that xuiying gives to Ryo means surely Ryo will encounter her missing brother at some point and he will be like 'where did you get that?!' etc etc, Lan Di was apparently on his way to Bailu village so some sort of confrontation will go on there, and who knows what'll happen.

What I asked myself all the time:

Does Shenmue have a large fanbase in Asia ?
It seems like american and european fans care most.
Never heard of a big asian website/forum about Shenmue.

Has there ever actually been a game announcement during a postmortem?

I don't think so. If so, it would defeat the purpose of a post-mortem.

That's one of the reasons why I felt an announcement would be unlikely, unless its done maybe during some other show at GDC

I had my fingers crossed for the super secret "series of significant importance finally to be released for PS4" this month in OPM UK. Turned out to be another Batman we heard about weeks ago...
