That's awesome! I've been dreaming of doing something similar myself one day. Glad to see it can happen... eventually.

It would be great and a once of a lifetime experience if the dojo members could come together at one point and make this journey together... Maybe on a Shenmue anniversary or the likes.

Also I'm curious would it actually be possible to travel by ship (i.e. Cargo) from Yokosuka to Hong Kong, as Ryo did ? Just to make it as "Game" like as possible.

Man... Now I feel like catching the next plane to Japan

Cool!

I actually visited Guilin and Hong Kong because of Shenmue in 2006. I was about 18 years old and had no idea what I was doing. Good fun though :D I have been to China since and it has changed quite a lot in the last 10 years.

Someday I'll visit Japan God willing. :)

I arrived and was greeted by this forklift parked directly outside. As those who know Shenmue well know that a forklift is heavily prominent in the game, I knew it was a sign.

I've experienced something similar. On my plane ride to Hong Kong I was sat next to a woman named Joy..

I'm amazed at how truthful the games represented these locations. It's especially impressive I think considering the fact that they managed to do this on a Dreamcast. Imagine what they could accomplish with current consoles.

And I'm not very surprised to see that the author has actually been a member here for years ;)

I played Shenmue 14 years ago (I was 15 and i lived in Madrid) and now i live and work in Hong Kong...my place is in Sheng Wan...5 min walking from the Man Mo Temple.

When i played the videogame i didn't even know it was Hong Kong...i just saw Aberdeen or wan chai.

I still think is the best game i ever played and i check every now and then if there are news about the third one....Give me a call if you come over here!

Cheers!
