It's Picard face palm time, removing the VF lite fighting system for QTE's in whatever form is a shockingly terrible idea, i'd go as far as to say it's completely insane, honestly if this is true i'd rather just have a comic or anime telling me the end of the story. If anyone out there is listening you need to change this descision, I'm a huge Shenmue fan and was in tears when i heard the announcement, i'm almost crying again, this time at the thought of Shenmue 3 becoming a QTE based adventure game any hopes that Shenmue 3 could be a commercial success just died. This news is the biggest buzzkill since prohibition, as the old saying goes be careful what you wish for. Keep the QTE's....meh ok if you want Yu your game lad, replace the fighting with more QTE's.... WTF!!!!!! ....it's the hope that kills.

I was never good at fighting in Shenmue. I always used the same two or three moves and button masher my way through. I don't want full qte but I'd like a better button system and more places to practice with NPCs.

You should try Virtua Fighter 5 or something close. I was in the same situation before I got into VS fighting games. Shenmue has really the best fighting system you could find in an adventure video game.

I really want this to be a success but removing one of the truly great things about Shenmue and reducing Shenmue to a QTE adventure game will be a commercial disaster. Maybe i'm wrong and the whole idea is to make Shenmue more niche and even less commercially viable than the first two, so that Shenmue 4 can be a cell shaded point and click adventure on Android. Imagine the swipe jesture joys of executing the Mistral Flash, Darkside Hazuki and Swallow Flip in the ultimate QTE mechanic, coming to the playstore in 2029.

Totally agree, the fighting mechanics are incredible for an adventure/rpg game.

You think i'm going overboard, this is my favourite game of all time and this muted revision in the gameplay should send a shiver down the Shenmue community. Absolutely nobody in 2015 thinks QTE's are a good idea. The descision to make them a bigger feature in the game is completely the wrong one and will hurt the game critically and commercially. Dumbing down this game which is what i'm speculating this revision points to, is again completely the wrong design descision. If the dev team asked the community would it be a good idea to do away with the FREE battle system, what do you imagine would be the response. I'm all for innovation but it's perfectly clear where these descisions will take the game and what type of game we will get.

No you're right "fighting" will be there, in some capacity, but not in the FREE battle form and playing second fiddle to QTE's. Just what i wanted, can I pledge another $500.

I'm past the worry stage i'm now in the beligerant stage, I think acceptance will come sometime in the next 14 years.

my favorite part about shenmue has always been the fighting - you're immersed in this awesome atmosphere, doing regular adventure game things, then bam you're playing virtua fighter (albeit with a sometimes awkward camera perspective)

and yu's right I fucking love forklifts
