Would you mind if other English voice actors don't return?

We know that Corey is coming back but no news if Eric Kelso, Paul Lucas etc are coming back to dub SIII, would you guys be ok if Ren and Lan Di are voiced by other actors?

I for one would be a little bummed out, but is shenmue 3 so i surely would get over it, if Corey didn't come back however, that would have sucked honestly.

So what are your thoughts and who would you cast if the actors don't come back?

Yu understands how important the voice actors are to the Shenmue community and the team at YSNet will try their best to get the original cast back.
On a personal level I'd love to see Ruth Hollyhan (Nozomi's voice actress) return for the phonecalls.

It wouldn't be right if, for instance, you call Nozomi, and it's not the same voice that I heard when I called in 1. I don't know, but I'd really appreciate if they got as many possible as they could.

Same thing, Sonoshee. I called her so much in my games, that I enjoy hearing her voice on the phone. If it sounded just like that in 3 I'd be really happy with that.

Even if we didn't hear him much, they have to get Paul Lucas to return for Lan Di. Same for Eric Kelso if you ask me. Regardless of whether or not you like the voice actors, they have become synonymous with the characters, and I'd be surprised if most people weren't disappointed after hearing new voices. I can say with certainty that no one else would be able do Fuku-san justice in my eyes (or ears, rather).

I'm not gonna lie, any new voice actors replacing someone would disappoint me a bit. I'd eventually get over it but I would always have that feeling wishing the original actor(s) were there instead.

Order of returning voice actor importance, imo:

1. Ryo (must return no matter what)

then way later

2. Ren/ Guizang/ Fuku san (same voice actor)
3. Lan Di/ Chai (same voice actor)
4. Nozomi (for telephone call)
5. Xiuying,(may appear) , Joy (telephone calls)
6 .Shenhua (prefer this voice actress to be replaced if i'm honest)
7. Fangmei (telephone call)
8. master chen (telephone call)
9. Tom (telephone call)
10. Iwao Hazuki (flashbacks)
11. ine san (telephone call)
12. Goro (telephone call)
13. Mai (telephone call)
14. Wong from Ajiichi, and his brother (would be nice cameo to see them again)

most other characters are not likely to return.

i think shenmue 3 is going to have mostly a whole new cast of characters anyway, but getting the above back would be nice. i'm pretty sure they are not going to be anymore expensive than others actors either.

How can we supposed to answer if we don't know which game design parts would be sacrificed in exchange for ? Because it's easy to answer "yes" in this case.

I'm fine with new actors. I won't play it in english anyway, the japanese cast is superior in my opinion. Playing Shenmue 2 in japanese really spoiled me, i can't go back to the english voice acting.

The good thing is that after that recent interview Sega Nerds did with Lisle, Eric, and Paul they all want to return. So it's not going to be difficult to get them back to voice these characters, however obviously I don't know their wages or the amount of funding it would take for this, but I would be hopeful that they all seem like nice people and their careers have all been driven by the fan passion for this game for the last 15 years, I would hope they owe it to the series and the fans to voice these guys even if they get minimal money in return - the optimist in me feels this way anyways!

just found some info on the Nozomi voice actress Ruth Hollyman. It seems she may be Scottish or at least that is where she lives and is most active;

Ruth is an Edinburgh based director, arts manager and writer who has been working with children and young people in a theatre setting for 24 years, primarily in Scotland. She co-founded Strange Town with Steve Small in 2008 and has managed the company with Steve since then. As well as sharing responsibility for the artistic and business management of Strange Town, she directs regular productions of new writing with one of the seven youth theatre groups and also set up and runs the Strange Town Young Actors’ agency.

Graduating with a BA in Drama & Theatre Arts from Birmingham University, she moved from Birmingham to Edinburgh in 1992 with her own small scale theatre company which performed new plays and ran Theatre-in-Education projects. She was part of the marketing department in the opening team at Edinburgh Festival Theatre in 1995, where she established the theatre’s education programme for schools. From here she moved to Tokyo where she lived from 1996-2000 and set up a children’s theatre company, worked in television and also in the voiceover industry.

On her return to Scotland in 2000, she worked as a freelance director and drama worker with the Lyceum Youth Theatre, macRobert Arts Centre, North Edinburgh Arts Centre, Scottish Youth Theatre, Perth Theatre, Stirling Youth Theatre, Borderline Youth Theatre, and Dundee Rep.

she only has 2 voice acting credits, Shenmue as Nozomi and the other is Resident Evil: Survivor as Lily Klein

her accent sounds more British in this performance.

Just Ren's English voice needs to be changed, so he dosen't sound like he's 10 years old.
