Well no, no really, since that complete speculation. Unless you can see the future, and despite seeming a bit arrogant, I doubt you are that bad.

Let me put it like this: If the KS/Slacker Backer copies really have eaten into the consumer base a lot, Shenmue is kinda boned anyway because we're barely over 70,000 backers when the sales target for Shenmue III is 1 million.

I dunno. General sentiment from reading on GAF and beyond seems to be a lot of people are waiting for Shenmue III to be "real" and on store shelves before they put their money down, and I don't really blame them. Series has been gone a long time, and Yu Suzuki had quite a few wilderness years before he was thrust back into the spotlight.

I do see a marked change in reactions when new, big project updates come through though. The detractors melt away and people start to get excited when they see that, yes, Shenmue III is real and it is shaping up quite nicely.

I thought this was obvious from the start?

People paying 2+ years in advance for something that has no form yet and that might not even get finished is clearly the exception. I mean, the consumer group that puts money in crowdfunding stuff (hardcore fans and people willing to support an idea) is completely different than the generic gaming consumer.

I think so, maybe they were tired of people assuming they were lazy to not update it on certain days when in fact they didn't update because there were no backers on those days.

Well, if Awesome Japan want us to think they're not lazy they've got to do more than update the total on days without backers... (e.g, PC version for slacker backers, KS upgrades, proper hosting for high-res images in the KS updates, invent a time machine to do the Kickstarter better in a way that actually reached out to non-fans, etc)

Maybe it's a technical goof and the total didn't get updated. Maybe they found a way to automate the update. Maybe both?
