I would assume it falls under being an extension of the kickstarter which would be in their domain of "expertise".

I don't think they're going away. Clearly someone on the team was already pleased with their work.

I assume the Shenmue 3 Paypal page will look a lot like this:

http://santa-company.jugemcart.com

Wow. I'd love that for Shenmue 3!

Here's another Awesome Japan page with a Paypal:

CHECK OUT OUR PAYPAL PAGE!

This PayPal store will open its door AFTER the funding ends on Kickstarter. All the donations made via PayPal will also count towards the Stretch Goals.

My suggestion, if you have a direct line to Joel Tess, is to gently lead them in the right direction with kind suggestions instead of outright bashing them. I don't think they're bad what they do per se, but they certainly were in over their head with this particular project.

The good news is they're probably adequate at fulfilling rewards if they were hired numerous times by the fellow that brought them over to Yu Suzuki.

If they've done it before, that suggests there are genuine reasons/problems that explain why Paypal has not yet been implemented.

Exactly.

We have been quick to blame them for all sorts of issues, but Joel's explanation makes sense.

What could be the problem though? Would it not just be a business paypal account to receive funds? Unless it could be something to do with registration, tax and the like.

Either way, it's been almost a week now. An update at least would be good.

The fact he says he is "not privy to" the current issues, it might be something to do with Yu Suzuki or YS.Net or I have no idea what. Maybe they have accountants or legal people looking at it. I have no idea.

I agree, either way, they should give an update. Announcing it and then not doing anything looks bad and they need to strike whilst the iron is hot.

It's very odd. I don't see what would hold them back besides something like rewards being added. Setting up a Paypal account for a business isn't rocket surgery.

As we've said before though, this isn't your ordinary Kickstarter. This is Shenmue III, a franchise with a very complicated life. SEGA, Ys Net, Shibuya, Sony, and potentially others have to reach a deal at least.

Yup, seems like it's not AJ fault.

If I see Joel I'll buy him a fanta, hopefully he can lead me to someone to translate backwards chinese writing.

I'm a little afraid about third party (or sega) trying to get "shenmue", I hope most of this will go to Yu's pocket, maybe now they're flooded with publishers that were just "waiting on it".

I'm more interested in who the investors are though I don't think he's liable to release that information til development is underway. Whenever a PayPal is announced I'll donate incrementally throughout the coming months and I know the fan base will as well. Everything will work itself out in the end.

I won't be surprised if they've been courted. Red Ash was saved from a certain death by a publisher and it didn't even get halfway to its goal.

We'll find out when the game releases anyway (game credits).
