The exact response he was given was

"There are lots of opportunities for legacy titles. We are exploring. We know what fans want as they have a petition."

Hopefully Sega sees the fanfare over the past day and feels prompted to do something, though!

WTF that is completely different from what he wrote.

Must I list all the opportunities Sega has passed up on over the years, some of which wouldn't even cost them any money at all.

Also that doesn't directly mention Shenmue 1 or 2 at all, do you know how many IPs Sega keeps hostage, people want remade or released outside of Japan in general.

Actually this DOES sound to me like they are "exploring" re-releasing Shenmue 1 and 2. The petition he refers to is likely the one for Shenmue HD. Reason to be very optimistic IMHO \:D/

Which one? I've signed several petitions for Shenmue HD in the last month #-o

Here is one :

There are probably several others. It definitely seems like he is talking about Shenmue. Especially since he was talking about Shenmue 3 earlier in the interview.

Well, the fact is he was given a fairly open response, but not a direct one at all involving Shenmue.

"There are lots of opportunities for legacy titles. We are exploring. We know what fans want as they have a petition."

Rooke could make that statement any day of the week about any Sega property. Obviously, they're exploring lots of ideas at meetings every week, but it doesn't mean they're making Shenmue a priority or actively working on it.

Trust me, even though I have had both original games since their release, I got tiny butterflies in my stomach when I initially heard about this article. I know how much you guys want Sega to put them back out on more current platforms.

Yes, but Shenmue is probably the most requested by fans (and probably has the most petitions).

When you think about it, direct answer involving Shenmue wouldn't be pausible since we all expect some annoucement for Shenmue HD comparable to the one at the E3 for Shenmue 3. This kind of news during an interview with a media marginally connected to videogames would only be the result of a timing/location mistake.

Yeah, it being such a niche outlet was why none of us discovered it until roughly two weeks after the story was posted.

@Gavan Thank you! I've already signed this one... still around 560 signatures needed though.

A few weeks ago, there was kind of a Survey on SEGA Europe Twitter account:
https://twitter.com/SEGA_Europe/status/ ... 5410866177

Shenmue fans can't miss those kind of opportunities to "speak" directly to SEGA.

SEGA of Europe's PR doesn't refer to the petition(s) about Shenmue HD, but the one about many titles of their legacy catalog, that goes with the hashtag #SEGAPCPorts on Twitter: https://www.change.org/p/sega-increase- ... egapcports

A year and half ago, SEGA of Europe has acknowledged that petition: https://www.change.org/p/sega-increase- ... /u/5871530

Not very long ago, SEGA of Europe also dropped a hint on Twitter about PC ports released in the future: https://twitter.com/SEGA_Europe/status/ ... 4463874049

Fun fact: that petition doesn't explicitly mention Shenmue 1 & 2 HD as one of their requests.

Oh, and SEGA is SEGA-SAMMY now, ha-ha-ha... http://www.segasammy.co.jp/english/

Ok, that is disappointing.... I guess I was probably wrong then...

I'm sure Rooke sees a lot of these petitions as he does his job on social media, don't worry. He's probably seen most of the popular Shenmue petitions after the shocking news this Summer!

If SEGA of Europe wants to see only one petition about Shenmue, then this is it: http://shenmue.link/order/ It has 70K+ signs signed with money. ;)

" and I think the buzz around Shenmue 3 shows that people love our legacy,” adds Rooke, who says Sega is exploring ways to re-release the original two Shenmue titles.

Um it is not because of Sega's legacy, it is because of the fact that Shenmue was and still is fantastic.

This is the text book case, of what's wrong with people who work at Sega these days.

No one working their has no concept of what makes a game good nor can tell if any game they make is good or crap. They literally don't have any baring on game design at all.

Sony's Paris Games Week Conference is starting right now. Shenmue HD? :D Probably not. But I'm excited.
