Lol the language question. This was back in the day where we didn't really question that stuff so deeply.
I remember maybe thinking about it once but then went with the flow.
I guess you could make some shit up that his father taught him chinese, being a well known martial artist and all. But if that were the case you'd think Ryo would have been more fluent with the chinese stuff in the first game.

i only thought about this question last night, and the q&a is probably over now, but i would like to have asked whether any of the scenes from the shenmue online CG were scenes intended to occur during the main series, like the battle between lan di and shenhua summoning the mythical beasts, and the destruction of the city.

but then again maybe he wouldn't have answered since it might have confirmed spoilers.

is anyone planning on compiling a list of the questions and answers. thanks

It's pretty likely Ryo's mother is Chinese yes but still wouldn't explain how he could speak Cantonese/Mandarin.

But the question just could've easily have been 'how can Shenhua speak Japanese?'or 'how can they all speak English?' if you played the Xbox version of 2 lol.

The answer is.. Because it's a game and its necessary.

No point in trying to explain it any further than that.
