Shenmue takes a small jab from EGM (issue 232)

Postby 2ndOpp » Wed Jul 30, 2008 11:33 pm

In the latest issue of EGM (#232) they have an article titled "The rise and fall (and rise?) of Japan" That talks about short comings and the way western games are doing it better now... any way they have small boxes talking about different landmarks and setback for the Japanese game market...

Shenmue is labeled a setback :(

Isn't this the magazine that mocks Shenmue now and then or was I thinking of another one?

Anyway, how can they even compare the two? GTA III was cool and all but it's nowhere near the same immersive depth and cinematic qualities of Shenmue. So what are they talking about? It's also ridiculous to show the forklifts as usual instead of some other scenery or some fight from a cutscene.

It's only boring to the people who are looking to whack a bitch in the street with a baseball bat.

Shenmue is only boring to those who are brain dead retards and have the attention span for a 4 year old. Shenmue is slow paced, not boring, not once have i ever thought to myself whilst playing shenmue "This part really drags", every moment was gaming bliss.

Comparing GTA to shenmue just shows how smart these people really are

Sigh.

That's just the way it is. People who know what they're talking about enjoy Shenmue.

What a fucking retarded magazine.

I've never been the biggest GTA fan, but you must admit Shenmue II did have some flawed game design in places. I can't speak for Shenmue I since I've never played it.

The only flaw in Shenmue is the shitty voice acting.

But without it, it wouldn't be the same.

They also shit talk about Yu Suzuki's car project in the previous page by calling it boring as well.

On the other hand though, the same magazine had great interviews.

I was thinking more about the job system to earn $500. But like you said, wouldn't be the same..

So much for whoever said that they liked Shenmue a lot. Not only that, but I guess this means that Shenmue news involving the "notes" page from the magazine is out of the question.
