I was defending this game before, but after seeing these screenshots, it looks fucking terrible. I honestly could build something like this in flash. Re purposing all the old dreamcast stuff just seems really half assed. I do appreciate though that at least its SOMETHING, but I don't expect this to be good at all (or even do well for that matter). I don't know, maybe its to early to tell. I should try and be optimistic about it

It's a social game in the same vein as Mafia Wars. Suzuki himself admitted that it's not meant to be Shenmue III, just a social game.

Very true.
Its looking just like they took some still images from Shenmue 1 and Online, recycled them and put in a simple interface.

BUT..
Is this a bad thing?
Ehh.. its certainly lazy.
Does Shenmue 1 not look good?
imo it does look good. Thats one of the biggest reasons I play it.
Am I dissapointed they cant make a fresh new look out of it?
Yes.
Is this the final look of the game?
Probably.
Will I play it?
Absolutely.
Will it still have plenty of users with the game looking the way it does?
Probably. Given its a simple cell phone and web game. Given that fact it actually looks much better than most.
Should Shenmue fans support it?
Sure. If you value the concept of being a fan that supports Shenmue and wants the series to have a chance in the future.

Indeed, support is the notion to acknowledge and put in action.

I was expecting more than this, after the first hints at the story/gameplay, but facing the system it is on, comparing it to other games of the genre and remenbering this is a way to put the name Shenmue out there first and foremost, I can deal with it.

The most important thing is that Yu Suzuki is out there, steping up to say he wants to do Shenmue and not only that, but doing something, if if it is just a social game for cell phones.

Can't even say I'm disappointed as it really looks like what i expected when i read "japanese cell phones" the very first time. I really just give it my blessing in the hope it will mooch so much money from japanese nerds that Yu can afford making a "real" Shenmue game again.

a little rumor I heard recently Apparently Shenmue fans Sega will trade exclusive rights to the game for funding... Much like Microsoft paid for translation of the Dreamcast version for the Xbox. My money is ...once again on the Big M but, Sony have Yakuza also Sonys strategy revolves around exclusive content.
