Now here's a question,

If Shenmue 3 does in fact become a reality, it will have a major overhaul in terms of it's graphics and (probably) game-play. Do you think you would get used to how it looks? I think because Shenmue always had that certain 'style' in terms of graphics and game play that it might seem a bit foreign to people who've played the game loyally for years. Hypothetically speaking, what would be your reaction?

I think the fact that Shenmue III's locations are likely to be so different to the previous games would make it easier to accept the inevitable graphical and gameplay alterations. As Ryo heads deeper into China and possibly beyond, he moves further away from the world he's used to, and so these changes could actually be a source of immersive empathy in longtime players. We have to adjust along with Ryo to this new environment and new way of doing things.

At least, that's how I'll be trying to look at it. In an ideal world, the nostalgic within us all would prefer a direct continuation of the style that we know and love (warts and all). But realistically, if we're going to get any kind of sequel at all, we have to be prepared to make the best of it and learn to embrace the differences instead of resenting them. They likely will be for the better, when viewed objectively, as there will obviously be an intention to appeal to new customers who view the older games as badly paced and clunky. Newcomers won't be as conditioned to look beyond those criticisms as we are.

When you say different graphics what do you think they would do? All i could see is it looking more real than in did when the game first launched on DC which is fine by me.

Lol I guess graphically at least for me would be a bit of getting used to because im so used used to the blank-expressions- with-their-mouths-barely-moving kinda game. I would think Suzuki would want a gran scale kinda game, so I'm guessing he'd want to pull out all the stops considering all the technical advancements in the past decade.

well I'm guessing unless if YU manages to get the same team together the style will be different from the first 2, or even if he did over the past decade I wouldn't be surprised if their artistic style had changed, personally I don't think I would mind as Yu suzuki is a great director and would probably push his team until he gets the best of results

I've had many years getting used to more improved visuals. Playing Yakuza or Sleeping Dogs already gives an idea. Hell here

Ive been thinking of the exact same question and sometimes I wonder if shenmue 3 will be the game we know and love or tainted by the current video game cod audience.

I think to some degree alot of us would be too critical. Especially if its gameplay related, not just graphical style.
Similarly to how true Resident Evil fans prefer the tank controls, puzzles and more survival-horror rather then the now TPS action game.
If they touched the traditional gameplay and reality aspects of Shenmue id be really pissed.
If its just graphics and it's not something drastic like cell shading or anything else way out there, if its just an improvement to look like, for example Heavy Rain or L.A Noire, id live. Id more than live at that.
