Would it be a good idea for Nitnendo to save Shenmue 3?

Looking at it now, Nintendo has shown a willingness to invest in risky endeavors over the past few years. They funded the Last Story and they've saved/funded Bayonetta 2. They have secured Yakuza 1/2 HD and have also decided to publish the next 3 Sonic games demonstrating a great relationship with SEGA. With a big enough push, I bet people could convince them to take up the reigns of Shenmue III.

I was wondering about starting a campaign to get Nintendo publish Shenmue 3. This seems like the best possibility to arise in a long time. Possibly be the last major opportunity. If enough people showed interest, then giving the recent news with Mother 2, Nintendo may listen.

So have Sony. But seriously, it'd be a good idea for anyone to save Shenmue at this point. Maybe not a good idea for them, but defo for us.

Tell me crazy, but I have a feeling that Nintendo and Sega will team up someday in the future, so they can fight the beasts (Microsoft and Sony) in the console war. (Surely, the previous proposition does not directly answer the question of the current thread.)

Well oddly Nintendo is publishing Yakuza HD and a Sonic game.

They also published Ninja Gaiden 3 Razors Edge and Bayonetta 2 and The Last Story,Pandoras Tower,Fatal Frame and a bunch of 3DS games from other devs. Seems they are publishing happy and went on how they want more Japanese games on the system westward.
The thing is most the games they published were either a new IP or followup so at least a semi successful series or better.

Shenmue is neither. The only way is to do what many of us have been wanting. Test the market with HD versions of the Dreamcast games. At the same time being confined to Wii U would hurt that even if Wii U was selling like Hot Cakes. Shenmue HD to test the market needs to go as far as possible. PSN/XBL/E-Shop. I also don;t trust Nintendo to market it well enough. They have this history of even if they publish it, they only put serious marketing into Mario or Zelda.(they even skipped Metroids 25th)

The Nintendo SEGA team up right now is a wet dream for many old school guys for reasons like Sonic. Other than that Nintendo just does not seem the right company to publish Shenmue.

No one who will make it single platform should ''save'' it.

Hell get Take Two on the job they seem to have a great attitude on games making.

The time just seems right. Its like the starts have aligned. Nintendo is looking for big name exclusives and they are really close with SEGA at the moment.

I doubt we will ever see an opportunity this good come up again.

I think it a very promising time, with all the scheming Nintendo and Sega are up to. Also when you think about the Yakuza HD releases and that Nintendo are desperate to sell more Wii U's. I think we really should try to make a push... However..

At this point, I just want Shenmue III out, regardless of which platform it is on, but I don't think we/sega/nintendo are giving Shenmue III any service if it was to be released on the Wii U. For one, Nintendo would not market it as much as it deserves, second, the user base for Wii U is quite small at the moment, and has more of the same focus as Wii had.. Casuals (even though they are trying to mend it).

One thing I think would be great, and a reason why I would even bother getting a Wii U, is if they release Shenmue I and II HD.

So, I'm all for pushing hard towards a Shenmue release with Nintendo helping out here. We should maybe setup a thread for a push?

I so desperately want to believe that stars *are* aligning:

1) Sony and PS4:
- Like many of us conjecture, Shenmue is very much so best well known among the core gamer crowd and Kaz Hirai and the rest of the media train for PS4 are pushing hard to have the PS4 recognized as a core gaming focused console first and foremost (http://ca.ign.com/articles/2013/05/30/s ... es-console). Consequently, being able to be the ones who are finally able to make the incredibly elusive and near mythical Shenmue 3 a reality would actually do *quite a bit* for Sony's credibility for the core gamers - heck, even whether or not said gamers have played the Shenmue series to begin with, given just how well known the IP actually is by word of mouth and cult reputation. And,

- Mark Cerny, PS4 chief architect and closely knit Sony game developer head, is one of the most industry celebrated, well known, and closest friends of Yu Suzuki. *And*, he has a fully knowledgeable and intimate understanding about what Shenmue is and what the overarching circustances surrounding the IP are.

And,

2) Nintendo and WiiU:
- Yes, Nintendo and Sega has very recently just announced the very real and intimately close working relationship that they now have with each other. So closely knit are the two that Yakuza HD and Sonic exclusives are reality for the WiiU. And considering *just how desperately* Nintendo must be working to get as many big exclusives from big name companies on the WiiU, it isn't unrealistic for us to dream about Shenmue on WiiU.

But, whatever the case is, like someone else posted, yes - a brand new generation of consoles has dawned upon us yet again. Which means that we'll have yet another five-seven years to struggle and clash in our ever ongoing campaign to finally have Shenmue concluded in one generation or another.

Good luck to us.
