Posted: Tue Jun 16, 2015 9:52 amYes Ryo's voice is crucial. But I'd also love for Ren to have his voice (assuming he's in III) as well as Lan Di. Not only the voices but i also hope some of the sound effects return too. Like the QTE noises and things like that. Really give it that Shenmue feel. The main menu music. The notebook song. Even though it's going to be on a current Gen console, I wouldn't mind one bit if it had the look and feel as the dreamcast version. Really wouldn't. Just give me 1080p lol

Posted: Tue Jun 16, 2015 11:24 amReally hope they bring Corey back to voice Ryo - it wouldn't be the same for me without him. The guy has always kept an eye on Shenmue and been great with fans on Facebook and I am pretty certain would jump through firey hoops to get involved with this game.
I genuinely hope that the fact fans are funding this will allow us input into decisions such as this, or at least a vote on the matter.

Posted: Tue Jun 16, 2015 12:01 pmI'm personally of the mind that the Japanese voice work will be sufficient; I actually like the old English VA a lot (because that's all I've played with so far, so it holds nostalgia for me), but I'd take the authenticity of the Japanese voice track over anything else, if it was a choice.
But looking at Corey Marshall's facebook, yeah, I think the guy deserves to be a part of this nonetheless.
Maybe it'll be a kickstarter goal.

I'm really hoping with the exception of Ryo's original Japanese voice actor, who is already on board, we can get the same Japanese talent back who voiced Shenhua, Ren, Xiuying etc (if the latter two appear in S3, that is.)
Regarding Corey, he made his interest in voicing Ryo once again abundantly clear on Twitter. Just make sure you retweet it out to Yu to get him aware (if he's already not).

Posted: Tue Jun 16, 2015 2:27 pmThe voice acting might be good even if it has the same voice actors. Reading about the history of Shenmue it seems like the way they went about the voice acting was just stupid. Hopefully Yu has learnt his lesson or he hires someone who knows how to do it.

I love the old cast, but I don't think they're ideal -- unless of course they're directed better or something, but either way, the voice work has to be solid. The quality of Shenmue 1 and 2's voice work will not fly today and I want this game to be successful. We'll always have the cast from Shenmue 1 and 2 to go back and enjoy regardless.
