So they are not funding the game actually. They are doing what they'll do with any other indie game.

If Sony are responsibly for handling the release and marketing on the PS4 then we need to flood them with requests to give us a physical Shenmue III release for the PS4.

This is just my speculation, but I think given the success of the Kickstarter, Sony is stupid if it only funds the marketing of Shenmue 3.

So they're funding the porting to the PS4 and marketing? That seems to be cleared up and pretty clean cut.

It appears that way. I think OP should change the title to reflect the change, however!

changed my post in reddit to reflect that change so people realize Sony isn't funding for everything, but only a small margin.
Hopefully this convinces people to help the kickstarter.

One of many? That's good news. Sounds like he's doing a good job getting other investors involved. I wonder how much of that is because of the Kickstarter's success and how much he did beforehand?
I do wonder if Square Enix is one of them since Hashimoto, an exec of Square-Enix, was at the same dinners as Yu Suzuki and Shu Yoshida...

I don't see why many keep referring to the "porting" of the PS4 version. Cedric Buscay in that French interview video said among other things his role is to find funding for the PC version. If anything that would define that platform as the secondary platform. Suzuki himself as producer was the one making the appointments with Sony so I would think the PS4 is actually the lead platform in all this. Especially if Sony's deep pockets are going to aiding the development of that version.
