I'll be honest, after 13 years i wouldn't have cared if the game was made for mobile only.

I'll take whatever they make

I would rather not have the game, honestly, if that were the case.

Same here.
I'd take a good Shenmue 3, or non at all.

Yup. Either you go all out, or you don't go at all. Shenmue, the entire series, should be remembered as the masterpiece that it deserves to be, whether complete or incomplete.

To be honest Shenmue III looks lame, why can't we get shenmue V instead ?

To troll everyone, they should have announced Shenmue 4 instead of Shenmue 3.

What's funny is that the same kind of story happened with Twin peaks, the tv serie from David Lynch, the Shenmue of TV :) , which was left unfinished for 25 years ! And there was budget troubles a few weeks ago, but the fans and cast went viral with petitions and stuff and make things worked. And there's the same discussion about it, like can you match it with the original after such long time ?

Here is what I would be content with:

Decent graphics (at least as good as the originals and with characters that are recognizable (not like what was shown in the E3 demo). Graphics are the least important aspect.
Gameplay that is as good as the originals
A world that is as big and detailed as in the originals
Music that is as good as S1 and S2
Story that is as good as the originals

I would not be satisfied with something like a mobile game or extremely watered down indie-like game.

After making the Reddit AMA in the PM I am convinced that they have no idea what they are doing with this project and I am not extremely worried.

Only one I have is that story.

I'm expecting it to be woefully generic with some superpowers thrown in here and there. Shenmue II was a step in the right direction by introducing characters like Joy and Ren into the mix, injecting more personality. Then you get to the woodland area and Shenhua is just as painfully dull as Ryo is. Then a magic sword appears.

And considering I don't fully understand why Iwao was offed by Lan Di nor do they really go into much detail about it despite it being the sole reason for Ryo's quest is troublesome. Obviously this was written well-head of time so they probably intended to make more reveals as the series progressed, but the smarter thing to do would be to reveal some of the main plot points in the first game then unravel it slowly. Not everything, just the "whys". Why did Iwao get killed? Why does Lan Di want those mirrors? You can keep the ultimate reveal a secret.

But other than a few interesting bumps here and there, I'm really not expecting a whole lot. And this is a game that is survived this long by its story. Otherwise people would've been pretty much done with it after II. I'd love to be wrong though.

Well considering we are 30 minutes past what would be 9:30 AM pst, that seems to be a no.

Why did Lan Di kill Iwao?
Because Lan Di believes that Iwao killed killed Zhao Sun Ming (Lan Di's father). It's supposed to be a big cycle of vengeance.

Why does Lan Di want the mirrors?
Because he's a part of the Chi You Men, who's goal is to use the mirrors to resurrect Chi You and bring about the end of the world or something. Lan Di might have goals beyond something so obviously mythical, but that's what we know so far.

Sure, this stuff was all revealed in S2 rather than the first game, but there's nothing wrong with that sense of pacing when the series was originally supposed to span 16 (?) chapters, and we've only gotten up to chapter 6.
