Kickstarter Update #14 - Yu Suzuki on Twitch this Friday

I know it's never been done before but someone from Ys Net should get in touch with Kickstarter, to get the campaign extended to 60 days. Once that's taken care of - fire Awesome Japan. Then a more competent marketing team can take over the campaign and get things back on track. I'm sure that after Shenmue 3 broke records on its first day respectable marketing teams would be lining up to take this job if given the opportunity.

Kickstarter doesn't do that kind of thing, just not possible.

BUT, it IS entirely possible that Awesome Japan could be fired (or given a reduced role) and professionals could be brought in. If this happened sometime in the next few days we would still have half the length of the Kickstarter to run a more polished campaign.

Pledges went up dramatically thanks to the new tiers. I think many of you overestimate the effect these media shenanigans actually have on the Kickstarter.

I think its directly attributed to the new rewards and close to nothing to do with the overall quality of the twitch stream. Yes there was some new info, but not much.

That's exactly what I said. People care more about rewards than they do about some clown in a chat room. The Shenmue 3 Kickstarter has still managed to become one of the most successful Kickstarters of all time in spite of Awesome Japan. The Sony announcement was a masterstroke, and they're lucky they got it.

The up the rewards. Make 10 dinner spaces, get 5 watches (there were 3 on ebay this year!).

Add the rewards and it will sail.

The $1000 is sold out in less than an hour... what does that tell you?

Yeah, the surprise announcement of Shenmue 3 at Sony's conference, back to back with FFVII, is going to be remembered as one of the greatest moments in E3's history. Even if the Kickstarter campaign itself has had its share of problem nobody can take away the glory of that moment, when Shenmue 3 was finally revealed.

In the years ahead we just need to make sure that people remember Shenmue 3 itself, the game once it's released; along with the wonder of Shenmue 3’s announcement. Any mistakes made along the way by Awesome Japan can simply remain buried in the past, unremarked upon and safely forgotten.

I messaged them about a $750 tier. Hopefully they will consider.

Practically all the new tiers have been filled up with only a few left within the $2000....even if it sucked they surged up quickly at least another $60,000 so it worked. Now lets get more rewards rolling because CLEARLY they are working.

A well-done Twitch with no new tiers would've likely raised what, a grand, two grand? It's obvious what pushes people to pledge.

- Awesome Japan has "helped" 13 kickstarters prior to this (in a span of 11 months), only 7 were successful
- Only 1 videogame kickstarter ,Soul Knights (ex Nippon Ichi staff), barely met the goal of $60k with only 246 backers
- only 1550 backers and $170k for all their campaigns combined so far
- they had no native english speaker before this kickstarter apparently. All of their previous campaigns had significant spelling and translation mistakes

how did this happen

The stream caused an unexpected boost in funding. 60K overall as I stated earlier but it has also boosted us from the usual 25K average to 44K for yesterday and 18K for today when today has only just begun. So a 60K surge that has also created momentum that is sending today's funding in to overdrive.

Regardless of your opinion on the stream it has surged the funding when the campaign previously had almost completely stalled.

EDIT: On the subject of the PS4 physical tier that's an automatic 500K there IMO. There's still hope for this campaign yet.

I don't know Kickstarter well. Are the Awesome Japan's statistics really this bad ? Considering the projects they defended ? I don't want to be too harsh without being sure.
