How much "magic" will be in Shenmue III? (spoiler ShenmueII)

Just curious about what do you think. I'm not really happy by the implications at the end of Shenmue II and that flying sword. I'm ok with some mystical event, but not that kind, with a flying sword.

I don't know what it means, so i hope more realism in Shenmue III, and a clarification that the whole scene at the cave didn't happen (and it was a dream or something like that), or it happened in a different way.

We already know that Shenmue is supposed to turn into Dragon Ball battles since Shenmue Online, sorry.

Sure? I would think that it was an adaptation and Yu Suzuki wasn't at full control about the content.

I think we should take Shenmue Online for a grain of salt.

I really don't get the bitching about Shenmue "turning into Dragon Ball." It was always going to be about magic/mysticism, since before any of you had even heard of Shenmue - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GQ6-QRThA8A

It was pretty much supernatural by the end of the second game already, but I don't expect literal apparitions of Phoenix and Dragons in the series a la Mega64's video.
That being said, I'll take whatever Yu Suzuki throws at me with a smile, specially after 14 years.

I think many fans love what Shenmue is the 99.99% of the time. Shenmue puts so much effort in recreate a believable world that i cannot think a way for not totally destroying that feel with magic. Of course, i will play Shenmue III.

major series spoilers

A shenmue online video was revealed a long time ago and yes, a literal Dragon and Phoenix are summoned in a battle between Shenhua and Lan Di. There was huge uproar on the Dojo.

And I fucking hated that video.

I prepare myself to be disappointed but Shenmue remind me Hayao Miyazaki in some way. The magic in his movies is there but it's slowly introduced to make it more believable and realistic unlike Final Fantasy. Yu seems to take the same path.

If anyone here thinks the level of magic will go DOWN as the story progresses get your dissapointment out of the way now. Shenmue was never ment to be a simple story nor an unispired constantly grounded game.
I fear many of the fans out there who think this plainly will be in for a suprise and ill be here saying I told you so.

I've posited this about Shenmue III for years. I wonder if many fans who are unaware of the game will think that the super natural elements are added merely to try and appeal to a wider audience, never knowing they were always planned from the get-go. I can see some potential faux backlash in the future over this from clueless types lol.

Yes.
And at the same time for others...

Dont expect anything near Shenmue Online levels of rediculousness. That was obviously an exageration for the purpose of making an MMO that apeals to Chinese people that play WoW.

To be honest, the only thing in the Shenmue Online trailers that was fucking stupid was a bunch of random, goofy-looking characters being there, and having unexplained martial arts/magic abilities. Everything else was fucking awesome. Ryo decking those Chi You Men goons with a flying roundhouse was cooler than pretty much every fight scene in Shenmue I and II.

The physical manifestation of the dragon and phoenix was fucking awesome too imo, and I think people are going to be disappointed with the rest of the series if they thought that was dumb.

I imagine you'll be doing Street Fighter style Hadoukens at some point, I'm somewhat resistant to the change from realism to magical but if it's seldom done then I can appreciate it, provided it doesn't get wacky and we have a dragon and phoenix fight in the sky while Lan Di and Ryo fight for four hours down below while ripping the planet apart just like Goku vs Frieza.
