I thought of something the other day, besides the fact the Paypal option is only here for the XMAS season(sigh the worst damn time to be asking people for money), maybe the reason It's going slow now, is that god aweful POS ragdoll reaction stretch goal, no one wants that crap, and people definitely don't want to help push it over the top, if we're not likely gonna reach higher stretch goals.

Yu Suzuki and company just need to figure out a way to reach a large number of people, like they did at E3. I can't imagine it's gonna happen. Just take a deep breath and be happy the game still exceeded its goal by quite a lot.

There is only one way imo, within the PayPal campaign: Annoucement of Shenmue HD Collection.

While it's true, Shenmue fans will have to buy a lot of presents for others, they can still make wishes for themselves or even receive Christmas money which they can spend on S3's Paypal around New Year's Eve.

Also, in my country a lot of people get like half a month's or even an entire month's salary extra from their employers for Christmas, so that means they will have a lot of money to spend during Christmas Season.

That said, I'm also kinda bummed, it's only gonna run for 3 months. I can understand Yu wants to finalize a budget soon, but still I don't know why it had to be this early. I was hoping something like half a year of Paypal. Bloodstained's Paypal is still open, afaik.

Lol damn you got some cushi job to be paid by Salary , and get holiday bonuses.

Yea infact I emailed Iga to ask how long they will have Paypal up for, like a month 1/2 ago. He told me it will be up for atleast the remainder of the year.

Getting paid by salary cuts both ways. If you have a job which requires a lot of hours (especially overtime), you'd much prefer getting paid by hours, instead of a fixed income every month.

The holiday bonuses depend on what you negotiate with the employer. For instance, if while negotiating, you only agree on an annual income with them, this kind of thing is a welcome opportunity for most companies to split your income into 13 or 14 instead of 12 wages per year.

An additional $5M ain’t happenin’ anytime soon on Paypal.
The momentum is essentially D-E-D at this point, exactly like those of us with half a working brain had predicted. This is why we were “whining” about Paypal 2 months ago, ppl…

Realistically speaking, I could see the $7M… perhaps the $7.5M milestone being reached, but not much else, as the brunt of the fanfunding has already been achieved. Right now, we’re basically looking at the handful of Japanese fans who were too ___ to donate via KS, and the ultra hardcore (and generous!) few who feel like going a second round.

Outside investors should be guaranteed at this point, at least on some level (if not, someone needs to be fired), in conjunction with Sony’s ever elusive/ opaque role in “investment”. This will hopefully be enough for a solid third installment, with just the right amount of stretch goals.

[On a side note, since we’re speaking of finances…I still feel they should have opted for JPN-only voiceovers (with English, Spanish, Portuguese, French and maybe Chinese subs to hit all the major markets, and then some). It isn’t like the fans would NOT have pledged, had that been the case…but hey…it can’t be Shenmue without wasted funds, amirite]

I wasn't expecting it to do as well as the kickstarter but the paypal so far has been incredibly slow. It's high point was 13k on the first day I think.

That being said I'm not going to complain about it happening. The kickstarter wouldnt accept my card for some reason so this allowed me to secure a ps4 physical copy at least.

Paypal campaigns have always been low and 7/7.5m is of course our goal since the beginning. The Shenmue 3 kickstarter had a similar pace before the PS4 physical copy announcement but this time, the potential backers have several months ahead them. A lot of people may be waiting the end to see the remaining rewards coming back as well. We just need Shenmue HD to get a little boost.

As much as I personally would love to kick out English dub and all the subtitles except English, we need to face the fact that it's not gonna happen. Bailing out of reached stretch goals could cause Ys Net trouble with the outside investors (Sony and others) and also could cause a major backlash against S3 among the backers (and also the media) from those countries. There might even be signed contracts regarding those subtitles and perhaps even contracts with English voice actors such as Corey Marshall and others. We don't know. What we do know is that lawsuits are the last thing Ys Net needs right now and a lawsuit about a project as big as S3, especially against a big investor, could easily kill a small company like Ys Net.

My hope is that every reached stretch goal automatically triggers extra funding from outside investors who are already part of the project.

I think there are two main groups of people the Paypal campaign will get support from:

1) Die hard fans who have already contributed to the KS and are still willing to throw more money at S3.

Those people will be fine and they will do what they can do to help S3. They have received an update email about Paypal from AJ and also check shenmue.link and other Shenmue-related websites often enough to know about the Paypal campaign. For that group, I think an "upgrade your KS pledge" option would go a long way.

2) People who either missed the KS or wanted to contribute to the KS but couldn't for technical/financial reasons.

Now we definitely want to get the second group's money too but things will be a bit more difficult here. Two questions arise. One is, how do we reach those people? The second one is, are they still willing to throw their money at S3?

A lot of them would probably go and buy the game for $29 or even at $60 for the physical copy but they're probably not that much of a Shenmue fan to check Google for Shenmue news every week. Otherwise they wouldn't have missed the KS campaign. So that basically means, we will have to make the Paypal campaign more widely known. I hope the Tweetathon can helpf.

The other problem is that some people in this group may have been very psyched about S3 in June and July but aren't anymore, so they might be reluctant about still throwing money at it now.

Also, a lot of people might think "The game's been successfully funded and has already reached loads of stretch goals. I don't need the other ones or the rewards. I'll just go buy the game when it's out." which is fair enough but there's probably not much we can do to make them pledge to the Paypal.
