Mind. Blown.

And only by a few screenshots released so early into the Dev cycle.

This is gonna be an insane 2 years!

Man, I just wanna explore that thatched house. Wonder if it's Shenhua's place?

Would be cool if you could just chill and skip stones in a river, à la The Old Man and the Peach Tree. Maybe if you impress an old martial arts master with your stone-skipping you could get a technique scroll? :P

I don't think Ryo's face is bad.

Little by little they are getting there.

It's a significant improvement over the model they debuted at E3. He looks real plasticky, but I'm guessing that's an Unreal Engine 4 quirk.

Awkward camera angle in the first two shots (a crotch camera angle added to the earlier ass camera angle), the second shot was directly taken from UE4's tech demo with the same old model of Ryu, and finally the last shot might be done/inspired by Kid Nocon.
The only "real" progress I've seen so far is having Kid Nocon on board. Other than that, no matter how hard I tried to be impressed by what I've seen so far, I simply couldn't.

I know it's still very early, but even at this early stage I'd expect to see some "progress" other than random shots showing that they're trying to "learn" how to work with UE4. That makes me keep asking myself: will Shenmue 3 live to its legacy ?

They explained the awkward camera angles.

Otherwise I don't really disagree with you. Still, consider they're showing us what they're willing to show us. I'm sure they've done more than you suggest.

Apparently the first shot was taken in the same UE4's tech demo area, and the second one is in a dojo or some house. I am not sure what kind of spoilers would a better camera angle reveal, couldn't they simply hide what they wanted to hide by zooming in or maybe cropping the photo instead of awkwardly moving the camera?

Amazing.

The art direction in the last two shots are all I want. More of that please.

I have to agree, if one of the areas really is just an Unreal 4 demo, then why did they need those camera angles? :???: I like the new images but that doesn't really make sense to me.

Doesn't seem productive to complain about a few test shots taken three months into development. *shrug*

I think some here were right about one thing:

It would be better if they don't show anything at all to the fans, because after only three month in the dev, there are already people complaining about the quality of the graphics, asking for something "mindblowing" like Shenmue was 16 years ago.

The budget is what it is. They won't be able to do miracles on the technical aspect.

And you know what? I don't care. I want the "Shenmue feeling", no more, no less.

This, is exactly how I picture the Shenmue "atmosphere" in my mind:

Doesn't also seem productive (at least from a marketing perspective) to show such shots while the PayPal campaign is still going, they need to "convince" more people (especially those who are new to the series) to support their development, and what they've released so far isn't doing that any favours.
We have to admit that the marketing of Shenmue 3 has been a disaster so far, and they keep missing one chance after another which makes me really really depressed ...

The tatched house is what I think when I think Shenmue. An atmosphere. What's in that box near the front of the house doors? Who lives there? What kind of story do they have? Will they tell me how that house was built like how Shenhua told me her house is made of dirt? You just know that house has a story. This is Shenmue and it means something and it's not just there for environment.

Imagine controlling Ryo and exploring the outside of that house.

The barks of the dogs, the moos of the farming cows!

That image is Shenmue distilled.

If Ryo were somewhere in that shot, like this for example

I'd have lost my shit in excitement.

Compare that Hazuki 1080p shot to the thatched house shot. The thatched house looks almost as detailed as Hauzki exterior in that screen Kyodai made for us.
