What is your favourite aspect of the Shenmue series?

I love all of the above, but if i was to pick a favourite it would be atmosphere and immersion ect. I have always just loved walking around the world 'taking it all in'.
Its a more gentle escapism than most games.

Please feel free to expand upon or specify some other aspect of the series that you enjoy the most.

Atmosphere of the real world. Im afraid about it in III part however. The thing is that a huuge part of this atmosphere is "sharp" almost photolike graphics.

It's a very hard choice to make.

I love the atmosphere and sense of immersion in Shenmue, but utlimately, depiction of eastern cultures, philosophy and martial arts are the main reasons why I still love Shenmue so much.

All of the above, ideally.

But I voted for the depiction of the Eastern cultures, philosophy, and martial arts.

I voted for the first option but I really like the sega heritage option as shenmue is truly one big tribute to all great sega and it's part of why I love it. getting lagi/panzer dragoon dragen out of a capsule toy or playing your sega saturn at home. my god!

All of the above and more. Basically everything, apart from forklift driving, maybe.

But basically I love every single second of it, every time I play one of the Shenmue games.

I could go on an hours-long ramble about my favourite aspect, but I'll just sum it up as the atmosphere. I can't think of any game that comes to close to even whiffing the atmosphere (the 'magic' of it, specifically) of Shenmue.

If I had to choose, the first option.

However, it's really more that, coupled with this dramatic sense of mystery and a backstory/history between Lan Di and Ryo's father that we aren't fully privy to. And which I hope will be revealed more tantalizingly going forward. :D

And of course the training.

Definitely the mysticism overall in the series. Also the mysteries of later story elements. Also the overall attention to details in the game. Oh and the music! and the graphics!

to be honest its impossible to narrow it down. Just love the entire series :)

:) Hello there, I'm a new member (though I visited the Dojo regularly since a few years ago).
I agree the most important thing in Shenmue is the atmosphere. It's also a technical achievement on its own, so I think it's also important for its historical value.
