Shenmue 3 & E3 2017 - UPDATE - Confirmed will NOT be at E3

(Chapter 7 and beyond)

Considering Xbox is going to drop the Scorpio, I don't see Sony giving center stage to Shenmue again especially now that the hype around it has died down. Regarding the HD remasters, SEGA seems to be going hard on them so it's possible that we could see something.

Wouldn't Sony's whole argument this year be "yeah, but we've got the games" to counter Microsoft's hardware reveal?

Games. That's exactly what Sony is doing right and Microsoft doing wrong at the moment.

Please. I get my hopes up every year about news for Shenmue III. What's the difference this year? Oh yeah... Shenmue III is currently in development!! Yeah, sorry, but I'm going to get my hopes up. End of story. Can't help it. We all deserve to get our hopes up—especially after that Shenmue post-mortem nearly killed us all. So here's to Shenmue HD and Shenmue III trailer \:D/

Lol that was quite funny I admit. But yeah, I think there's actually a chance that Shenmue HD will be at E3 but Shenmue III won't. If that happens then surely that would make difference to the budget. If that happens, then wouldn't Shenmue 3 get delayed to add those stretch goals? Who knows what will happen though. Its all such a mystery what is in store for us.

Will there be a Shenmue 3 trailer at E3 2017 or will it be on kickstarter as an update?
Will Shenmue HD get announced? I don't know.

Who knows what is gonna happen.

Realistically, I have no idea what's going to happen. But it seems that it's legitimately possible that we're going to hear something about both Shenmue III and Shenmue I & II HD. So I'll go all in with optimism.

My prediction, which is based on nothing but my own imagination, is that we'll see a brief teaser trailer of Shenmue III that shows some in-game footage and reveals a specific release date. I don't really expect a feature presentation like we usually see with Uncharted or some equivalent franchise. Or course ideally I'd love that kind of treatment, with a lengthy trailer and an on-stage gameplay demo, but I don't really expect that... I guess even my optimism is pretty cautious.

If we end up hearing nothing, I'm not going to get angry about it but it will be concerning and I'll hope for some sort of explanation/status report to KS backers during the week in that case.

Just in terms of thinking ahead and assessing the unwanted but possible outcome of no Shenmue mentions at E3, let's be clear we don't have any notification or indication that it will be. If there is indeed a no show and people are asking why everyone was so all in, it's simply because the producers are so adamant this game will not be delayed and is on schedule for December 2017 release. That's just 6 months away, so if Sony want this game to sell, as well as honour their end of the deal, they have to step up with the promotion of the game.

Do you guys think that could be possible to have in the game some stretch goals even without reaching them? We're nearly 7 million, I wonder if the high ground battle system stretch could be added which is in 7.5 million.
I can't remember where did I read it or if it's only in my imagination but I recall reading somewhere that due to efficiency of UE4 it's possible to add some things that at first weren't add. Besides, some things are done faster than previously thought.

Yes and it's going to be AAA+ stuff like FFVIIR, TLOU2, Spiderman, etc. At best we get a mention during a indie titles segment.

That's a pretty crucial misread of Sony's attitude considering the press conference time they've given to niche Japanese titles before. They view them as "value-added" titles that improve the overall platform library by catering to more specialist audiences, they don't sweep them under the carpet. It's an approach that has been proven very effective, considering Sony dominated the early part of this year with Nioh, Persona 5, Yakuza 0, NieR, etc.

Shenmue III is the next title lined up to be part of the resurgent wave of Japanese games Sony largely has as console exclusive.

If YSnet has something to show, Sony will step up and give them the proper time and exposure for it. That's the deal they made.

There will be a lot of surprises at Sony's E3 2017 press conference for sure like maybe a Spyro HD Collection, Sly 5, Sucker Punch's new IP, Bloodborne 2, Resistance 4 Japan Studio's new AAA JRPG, maybe other series coming back like Socom, Medievil and much more and they will probably anncounce Agent, Legend of Dragoon remake... and hopefully Shenmue I and II HD. I know this may sound like a lot but we can dream!

I would be really surprised if they showed nothing at E3 ’17.
They can’t avoid major trade shows forever, especially considering the game’s official release date.

That's wishful thinking, there is no guarantee Sony will give Shenmue center stage ever again. They have agreed to help out in marketing but as was already mentioned don't expect a lengthy trailer and a stage demo. If it happens... great but I'm not building myself up for disappointment.

I agree, they are going to drop the big guns alongside with the mandatory new COD stuff for casuals. Lots of games are gonna get lost in the shuffle.

Okay. Let's take another spin on it.

There is a burden on Sony to deliver on the promises of E3 2015, and that includes giving Shenmue III the proper exposure at one more big press event - at least. Sony hitched their wagon to Shenmue III and rode the wave of goodwill for "bringing it back". Eventually they have to pay up on promises to YSnet, and the audience who saw the game unveiled on their stage. Neither party are going to forget.

A stage demo was probably never going to happen either way. How do you really demo a game like Shenmue in that context? You don't, because it isn't an immediate satisfaction game.

What I don't understand is resistance to the idea of a trailer. What did Peter & co see last year in Japan? A trailer. If Shenmue III were to be in a state to show at E3, that's how we'll see it. Sony's definition of marketing with third party deals has traditionally meant press conference time. Why would they treat Shenmue III any differently when they've already made special exceptions for it with a better deal than other 3rd party titles get?

What are you expecting? I just don't really understand your thought process here.
