My memory is a bit foggy but I think I remember them making some changes to Ryo's character model fairly quickly after initial complaints from fans. I believe Ryo in that video was a result of those early changes.

Nah, they did Photoshop mock ups about improvements they presented on the first livestream, but the models themselves didn't change for the Lake of the Lantern Bugs video.

The E3 2015 model just looked very different depending on the lighting and angle.

Are you sure they didn't make any changes to the models? I could have sworn I remember them showing changes in that department on the model itself during the early stages of the campaign.

Yeah, it looked terrible in the Kickstarter video but great in the Famitsu screenshots.

The image you posted is just one of the E3 2015 screens but someone fucked about with the image values in Photoshop.

I hope they change that ugly font and go back to the original Shenmue font. Don't understand why YS was so insecure about something that's not broken.

Yu explained the logo change at MAGIC last year. In the Shenmue Dojo's interview with him, actually.

He apparently read a study about young people losing the ability to read cursive anymore and wanted to present a simpler logo. Unfortunately there seems to be a bit of culture difference in him not recognising the Papyrus font as looking very cheap and unprofessional, but with that said, I think him not going to a designer for a custom logo in the first place may indicate it was never meant to be anything other than temporary anyway.

A KS update from a year ago roughly approached the topic, and the OG logo has appeared since in a small number of updates. I've got no doubt that when Shenmue III reemerges in a promotional capacity it'll have the OG logo, and so will the game itself.
