Shenmue III @Gamescom '17 Discussion - That's All, Folks

It's all kicking off!
How crazy it is that we are finally seeing banners and promo stuff for a game that a lot of thought would never exist!?! The fact that Yu is standing next to a Shenmue 3 banner (alongside a banner for a well known publisher) absolutely blows my mind! 16 years and over half my life in the making and I could not be happier!

(someone steal me that banner when the conference is over please)

Ryo looks really good here. Now, if only people would stop complaining and just be glad that Shenmue III is really, actually fucking happening.

I'm pretty sure this is the exact same model that we saw in that other promotional image.
How much a different angle and different looking direction can improve it, is incredible. But of course since it's very reminiscent of the Shenmue cover it of course instantly boosts the familiarity. Still confused about the logo...

Anyways, the engines are definately revving up now!

Sorry to break the hysteria channel but I'm still finding Ryo ugly as hell. Not a complain, only my very honest observation.

Do you think? I always think he comes across as quite a chilled out character. Takes everything in his stride. Don't forget, he's not getting any younger as well.

He just looks more tired than say, back in 2015 when Shenmue 3 was finally announced - and naturally so. He's a busy guy.
All I meant by that comment was that it's nice to see him get some time to himself, he certainly deserves it.

What exactly do you not like about that modell? Is it the coloring? The face proportions look perfect, so it can't be that.

I agree the jacket and the hair need some work, but the facial features look absolutely great.

In a game like Shenmue, stare makes 80% of a character identity. So I would respond the eyes. They looks too manga for me and that destroys everything the character he was.

The proportion head/body seems not ideal as well but I'm still not sure.

But if I have to admit a point, we're closer to something very solid indeed.

Ryo looks good in that banner. tbh, not even Ryo in Shenmue Online's trailer looked like "classic Ryo", but it did look right when in motion, when "acting" as Ryo. I think it may be the same with this new model, we'll see if it fits once we'll see him in the next video.
Too bad for the new logo, though. I think it just looks unoriginal, using kanji-like characters like any other logo do.
