Shenmue III teaser is FINALLY HERE!!

The Guilin chapter re-visit may make sense for a number of reasons:
- introduce brand new audiences to who Shenhua is
- introduce why Ryo is in the area in the first place
- good tutorial to QTEs with the various 'jump over tree trunks' and 'jump over rocks in stream' events

On the other hand, while the Guilin forest long-walk may have been a fantastic, relaxing paced gift for players who had already spent ~10 hours playing through all of Shenmue 2, we shall have to see how Yu has integrated such a potentially polarizing segment smack dab into the start of a brand new game with brand new players.

Indeed, it does seem like a great place to start both character and tutorial wise, but I can see the comments now "I quit after 15mins, it's so boring".
I think the game pacing would be off unless it was trimmed down a bit.

Shenhua's outfit is already an apparent retcon.

I do miss Shenhua's more realistic face from the old games a bit

Yeah, why did Shenhua get retconned so much (outfit, face and haircut)?
I'm confused how Ryo gets so many comments about his appearance and yet very few people make a fuss about Shenhua?

Come on folks, we need O.G. Shenhua back in dis game!

Also, they need to improve the lighting in this shot. The mirrors need to stand out more, it's far too dark to appreciate the character models and it appears to be snowing.

Negativ:
-Shenhua as a whole - She doesn`t look Chinese in the slightest, nor does she look like the old Shenhua. Also I could understand having her change clothes but having her wear different clothes in the end-scene of Shenmue II is unacceptable. I also think that her new clothes look rather boring compared to her Shenmue I&II outfit and her hair is short sometimes, and sometimes it`s long, which is weird. I don`t like how she looks period.
-The logo doesn`t look good. It lacks elegance.
-The cave - It could be the lighting but somehow it doesn`t look magical and made of phantom river stone. Take out the two huge mirrors and the cave in this new footage wouldn`t look like anything special. The cave in SII however, as I said, has something very magical to it.

On point man!

Personally I would be happy with more delays for the team to fine tune stuff.
I need to watch that trailer some mo' though...

Looks very promising to me! The environments in particular are gorgeous and beyond what I would've expected considering that this isn't an AAA game in the same sense as the first two games.

I do feel that the characters need more work. The model for Ryo actually looks pretty good to me, but I think the main reason why he looks a bit off is due to the lack of facial animation. However, I'm also confident that Yu Suzuki wouldn't allow the game to ship before addressing something like that. Even something as basic as animating the eyes would go a long ways to making it look a lot better.

They must have 2 builds of Shenhua, her hair does keep changing from short to long in the trailer. Probably just a mashup of the then build and the now build in the trailer. I'm confident long haired Shenhua is alive and well. That probably means the team will make adjustments to the face, although I could live with current Shenhua's face. The clothes though? Gotta change that to default.

Need a 3rd rewatch.

You Suzuki asked for extension because he said he's discovered greater methods of expression....

So guess he's going to definitely make faces more expressive possible using latest tech.

Just a stupid thought for the 3D creation Gurus among you guys.
With the right "material" choice for model texturing, do you think it's possible to get something more organic for the skin with UE4?

NeoGAF is kind of a lost cause right now. Even the pretty damn respectable screens are getting flak, but I expect that's because people smell blood in the water.

It looks like Ryo is fighting that muscly man in at the center of the bridge, inside the walled section.

In addition to the walls, the door ways have the same arches, and the cobblestone floor is the same

How freaking BADASS is that fighting gif?! Wow, I got goosebumps just from seeing that. About the teaser, I must say that it is incredible. I almost cried tears of joy! However, I still think they should make Ryo look like he did in Shenmue Online and make Shenhua look like she does in that other model I've posted many times. But other than that, it is superb!

Thank God, it's not. As today's update on shenmue.link says, Yu has asked us what we think of it. I'll send an email to YS Net later to let them know I'd prefer the "June update" logo, aka the original Shenmue logo.
