Not saying this in terms of graphics, ratios or anything like that. But that image of Ryo staring at the Shenmue Tree gave me chills. I can't believe there will be players out there who will get to experience that for the very first time.

Honestly, it's looking very nice. I'm really looking forward to these being released. I wanted to play through the games again before Shenmue 3's release and it's great to have them on modern consoles.

Do anyone spot if the motorbike is still a Triumph?

I don't get why some Shenmue 1 screens are in 4:3 while others are 16:9. It's not just the cutscenes but the gameplay as well. If it's work in progress, and the game will be 16:9, they wouldn't show the 4:3 screens.

Probably best to direct aspect ratio chat to the dedicated thread for it, or the concerns thread.

And as a reminder, we've seen 16:9 gameplay shots for Shenmue, like this one also from the same fight in the park as seen in the screens above:

Loving the Heartbeats Bar screenshot... urban night gameplay sessions are my absolute favorite

Cool thing they're now releasing 4:3 gameplay screenshots (although we know the final game will sure be in 16:9) just for the sake of having more people freaking out :rotflmao:

new screenshots looking hot. Im pretty sure there will be a 4:3 mode and 16.9 mode, similar to classic and modern controls.

I'm more excited to play Shenmue 2 this time around as i played it far less than Shenmue 1. These screenshots are only adding to that excitement, especially the shenmue tree shot.

I hope there will be a 16.9 mode for everything, I'm a little afraid about cinematics in 4:3.

If you're a gamer in 2018 who knows nothing or very little about Shenmue, what would you objectively think about those screenshots?
I wish those who are new to Shenmue would look at this port in a timely perspective and appreciate it as much as we do.
Who knows, maybe they eventually would ...

I think shenmue has always a very distinct look. Shenmue 1 is very urban and gives off a realistic street vibe that we all can relate to. It's what drew me to the game initially. Shenmue 2 is very colorful and features a wide range of environments ranging from rural to street etc.

I think the real beauty of this series is that you can actually experience Japanese and Chinese culture through a video game. That's insane when you think about it.

The main audience this game will attract is the Quantic dream and TellTale audience. (Heavy Rain, Walking Dead). Others will include Yakuza fans and JRPG fans, although id say they could go either way.

I seriously doubt a call of duty fan or battle royal fan will give this game 5 minutes, but thats ok. The gaming market place is big enough for all niches to succeed nowadays.

Context is everything tbh. I don't think any of us can look at these screens without a single twinge of love because of our memories of these games.

But - if I weren't a fan and was looking at these for the first time I'd find the colour palette pretty striking, the shots of II especially.
