These are exciting times we’re living in. Who ever knew Shenmue HD would be #1. I wish the gaming news websites would pick this story up. Sega should see the success and pony up some funding for Shenmue 3. If 3 performs well they’ll definitely get in on the action for 4.

I wish there was a way to get real numbers for the preorders of HD.

Pre-orders are free plus it only costs 25 dollars. Dedicated fanbase I can see every so often Shenmue at No1. Been a couple times I have seen really obscure RPGs be high ranked for a day or so. Amazon only just yesterday gave the prime discount for Shenmue so likely a surge of people yesterday and today.

Currently ranking #14 on Amazon as of this morning, ahead of God of War and only a few Switch titles ahead, as well as the Switch itself.

I really think a Switch version would be in their best interest from a sales perspective, looking at the Switch performance. Even if it had to come later than the other versions, it would probably be a modest tick up in copies sold.

This could be a big indicator for how strong nostalgia really is, especially as an indicator for how well III could do in the market. We could very well see this collection surpass the sales of the original, taking into account all platforms available .

Huh... outselling the original would be great.

1.2 million copies seems achievable considering this will be launching on three platforms many, many times more successful than the Dreamcast.

Agreed, but I also think it goes beyond nostalgia. Shenmue was conceptually ahead of its time, and now there's more of an established market for this game. There's still nothing else quite like it, but there are other games that have some similarities in pacing and atmosphere. Usually when Shenmue's influence on the game industry is discussed, one of the first things that's mentioned is how it predated GTA III in the open world genre. Then the David Cage games are mentioned. But I think perhaps even more importantly it has also paved the way for quieter story-based games with detailed worlds. Firewatch, Gone Home, Life is Strange, Edith Finch, maybe even to some degree Telltale Games. Those types of games have been big hits in recent years and I think fans of those games will be some of the new players who check out Shenmue.

Still in the Top 25 this morning in all Video Games...that is impressive.

I can't wait to see the spike when more information or a elease date is announced.

It's trending on the top 10 weekly sales from Shopto.net from their e-mail they sent me.

In amazon spain it's in second place after Fallout 4 in the xbox list and 7th place in the ps4 list, not bad!

That is incredible!

I mean I'm going to assume the Labo is selling more than a handful of units considering it's the new 'it' toy, so Shenmue must be doing pretty amazing if we're just looking at daily numbers.

I mean God of War sold over 3 million copies in its first week, so Amazon are saying we are talking those figures?? Couldn't be.

Nah. The God of War figures are the worldwide total (I think), so that'd be sales from every online and physical retailer out there. Not sure if those figures include digital or not either.

Still, Amazon is a big retailer and Shenmue rising to the top of the Best Seller list is a great sign. They're updated hourly though, so I dunno how long Shenmue was at the top; but being able to hang with recent AAA releases is probably beyond SEGA's expectations.

I figure Amazon pushes quite a few copies of games, but I think digital sales are also a big portion of that 3.1 million. I still think ranking in the top 50 (and placing in the top 5 on some sites) over a period of 3 weeks has to have netted Sega a considerable amount of sales.
