Itwas "the Dollmaker" (basically a derranged, albeit seemingly calm, surgeon who likes to create legions of Leatherfaces)
As for "slumping sales", it's extremely rare for Batman books to be outside the top 20. It's actually them (coupled with Green Lantern's success and rise in popularity in recent years) that has kept DC in the race. Take Batman comics out of the equation and there'd be no chance DC could overturn Marvel's dominance.
It's just a high stakes cross-over, something that DC are really pushing at the moment. Trouble is, the lead writer's pretty boring, has only written one good Batman story despite being there a few years now (and that was with Dick Grayson under the cowl) but the worst thing is he's pretty much recycling everything Grant Morrison has written in the last seven years, like it's a bootleg crawling with placeholders n shit. Yet the guy's heralded a genius.
I don't know if I should blame the fans or Stephanie Meyer.
