I'm still hoping for a fanmade english patch but even the PSP games didn't one so I'm too optimistic about it either

The 5th game feels much more Japanese than the previous 4. Haruka's game is practically a Project Diva game if anything.

(So I started in November and it's now March, but I finished it! Isn't that what matters?)

Yeah, haha. I had to turn it on some after I beat it for some additional side quests. I didn't do them all, but just the ones I really wanted to complete. I'm pretty sure all I had left were ones involving mini games as well as that ultimate boss. But I can't be bothered to try to win at baseball.

Anyway, I really enjoyed it. It was really great seeing Kamurocho better graphics with the third person camera. Much more immersive. Beating down those street punks never gets old either. The story was pretty cool too.

Ending spoilers:

I don't know why they try to fake us out with Kazuma getting stabbed at the end. We know he'll be okay.

go and do this guys, we need to convince sega there is demand in the west for this game. any of you Shenmuers' who still haven't got into this series i highly recommend you give it a try. its one of the best things that sega still makes.
