The next Microsoft policy change will be that they will not, in fact release the Xbox One at all, but extend the 360's lifecycle by another 8 years. Bank on it.

Alright, I'm not trolling or flaming here because one day I might end up picking up an XBOne. But I couldn't help but find the humour in all this backtracking so it inspired me to come up with a satirical press release. I can only dream that the quality of my writing would be half as good as The Onion, but hey, when inspiration strikes you have to grab on to it.

PRESS RELEASE

At Microsoft, we listen to you, the gamer for what is important to you. Your voice matters to us, and we hear the message loud and clear: you like things just the way they are. So on this eve of this next generation of gaming, we are pleased to announce our exciting new console: The Microsoft Xbox 360 One.

Let’s talk about what 360 One means. We’ve managed to pull unsold inventory of our launch 360 consoles to act as the platform for this bold initiative to maintain the status quo. One means how much effort we’re planning on supporting this next generation of computing: a full one-degree. This single degree of focus will encompass all our marketing efforts going forward.

Image
Behold, the next generation.

The Xbox 360 One will launch with an MSRP of $499. What will differentiate this from 360 launch model is the sticker labeled “One” we’ve added to the console.

At Microsoft, we know affordable cost of ownership is important to our consumer. So for those that already own a current Xbox 360 console, we are excited to announce you can upgrade to the next generation by purchasing the standalone One sticker for the discounted MSRP of $149.00. That’s less than half the cost of the console alone.

Let’s now go over the exciting feature set of the Xbox 360 One:
• 20GB Smart Drive
• DVD drive with optional HD-DVD drive
• Component HD video output
• Optional wi-fi
• “One Sense” ambient lighting system – this exciting feature automatically utilizes the AI of the console to adjust lighting from green to red

We know we’re delivering on all the expectations of the gamer so we expect this console to be a success.

To hear more about what this exciting new console will bring, head on over to our 2005 E3 launch video for full details.

As for Kinect Ive said a few times they need to give gamers a reason to plug in Kinect rather than force it. My guess is MS re introducing the console is true.[They have pretty much done that now already.]

Ugh my back cringes when that Nelson dude talks, like nails on a chalkboard. So while 360 pads are one of my fave pads ever. It had some issues. D-pad yes and the biggest one was the analog sticks. They had a HUGE dead spot. Sony and Nintendo have great analog even the 3DS slider is quite good with almost no dead spot. I couldn't care less about 50 rumbles in the new controller as I always have rumble off. So if they fixed the analog and D-pad then you should have the best traditional controller ever.

My guess is Fifa is Europe's biggest? Or...GTA?

The exclusive could be anything.

CVG claim MS have spent big to secure a major 3rd party title to be bundled with every XBox One in Europe to give the $429 price tag more value.

While MVC say they have turned to EA and Fifa.

I thought that was already released... ;-)

But yeah, looking forward to it. There's just summat about the Fable series that I seem to enjoy, even though they're not brilliant games by any stretch of the imagination.

Turns out its set 400 years before the first Fable and you can actually have a 5th player who plays as the Villain with it playing like an RTS for them.
Can also be played in SP with AI co-op.

So I stopped in the Microsoft booth today and got a look at the Xbox One. These were devkits which I'm pretty sure will be nearly identical to the retail boxes. I played Forza 5 and man, it looks really good. I haven't been particularly amped about the Xbox One before, but seeing the hardware and games in the flesh definitely sparks some excitement. I also took a peek at Killer Instinct and Assassin's Creed.

Some pics:

The hardware behind glass. Nice.

Achievement shame. What can I say? There's a million things to see and do at Fan Expo.

I'm getting genuinely excited about the new consoles coming out. There's some pretty sweet gaming ahead.

What did you think of KI?

Apparently Game are giving people in store a 1st Nov release date in the UK.

MS are an event in Seattle this Thursday so they might announce the dates then? Would be shocked if they don't try and cash in on Ghosts release.

KI doesn't really do anything for me and I'm not sure why- considering I really liked the original on the N64. My stable of fighters are Soul Calibur, Street Fighter and Dead or Alive.

It'll be good to hear a release date to finally put the last piece of the puzzle to bed.

As a side note, Kinect is much smaller than I expected. But I guess it's all just a matter of opinion. The guy next to me said it was larger than he thought. Hah.
