The Shenmue III Font

There's an ongoing poll on Twitter about the Shenmue vs Shenmue 3 font:

Anyway, if YS ever wants to get rid of the old logo, they would hire a professional graphic designer to make a new one instead using the Papyrus font.

FWIW, it's been a mix of Papyrus & Bradley Hand fonts (the one in the poll shows Bradley Hand, I believe). As a graphic designer myself...I don't like either of them, but Papyrus is worse. Hopefully it does not ultimately replace the true logo.

Hopefully we don't wind up seeing Comic Sans thrown into the mix.

Didn't the dialogues use Comic font ? Really need to see the exact replica of every original fonts in a no-pixel version.

I've confidence in Yu to pay attention to details like this. I'm sure he knows how the first contact with the menu screen will be sacred to all the fans (if we don't get to be spoiled too much by the trial version).

It's just a font, honestly, just a font. So who cares? I wouldn't mind if it said Shenmue III with rainbows and stars all over it with Sonic slapping his arse. It doesn't matter, plus who cares what other people think of it?

I don't mind so much but this is the kind of things that will help the connection between Shenmue III and the Dreamcast episodes (as a lot of others things might be lost in return). I think it's fair to call these trivial details as part of Shenmue "soul".

It's one of the most despised fonts in existence and it just looks really cheap. I know everything will come together in the end, so I won't sweat it.

We need to remember that it isn't just us. We need to appeal to new audiences with no prior knowledge of Shenmue and they aren't going to take a game in a series that's supposed to be 'revolutionary' seriously if the font is written in Papyrus.

Yep, and the best we chance of having a Shenmue IV is having a Shenmue III which is accessible to new gamers while still being true to the original Shenmue spirit; if the final box art has Papyrus for the font then you can expect to see it on "Worst Box Art Ever" lists for years to come and forever be the subject of derision.

This is also why I believe the game needs to have the modern dual-analog control scheme by default; every friend I've tried to get to play the first Shenmue has struggled with the tank controls. I doubt we'll see a Shenmue IV at all, with or without crowdfunding, if Shenmue III doesn't capture a wider audience.
