Mega Visions: Welcome to a New Kind of SEGA Magazine!

Postby Yokosuka Martian » Mon Jun 20, 2016 8:39 pm

How's it going, guys? Just wanted to let you know that myself and the team at SEGA Nerds have launched a Kickstarter for a brand new digital SEGA/Atlus magazine called Mega Visions!

The Kickstarter lasts until July 18th, and I hope you guys can help get it off the ground. The video was made by Adam Sipione, who is filming the Shenmue documentary. Since I'm a hardcore Shenmue fan, you can bet Shenmue III will be featured in one of our upcoming issues!

Looks great and i backed at $15..

Would be cool if you had more rewards to entice people to back a little higher...

Backed at $15.
Looks like a great project that I would love to see turn into something I can read/interact with daily on my train ride. :)

As I said in the other thread, I've backed at $15.

I think that this is an exciting concept; I'd love to see a new Sega magazine being published.

Thanks everyone! Hey, man! We might go physical in the future, but it's not feasible at the moment. I feel like once we build our base and it becomes successful, we can think about physical copies. The first years will be the interactive digital mag that's being advetised.

A little bit of an update if you guys haven't been paying attention to the Kickstarter the past couple days. We recently announced that Tom Kalinske, Al Nilsen, Blake J Harris, and Randy Nelson have all hopped on the Mega Visions train!

"Tom and Al will take you on a journey throughout their time at SEGA and tell you stories you've never heard anywhere else before. This will be the first time both of these two iconic figures in SEGA's history will tell their stories directly to the fans."

Image

"If you've already read "Console Wars," you're familiar with Blake's innate ability to put the reader inside a story or setting and make them feel like they're actually there. It was one of my favorite aspects of the book, where you felt like you were a fly on the wall during important meetings between Tom Kalinske and his team at SEGA of America."

Image

Randy was one of the founding members of IGN in 1997 and has since worked at ODCM, PSM, The Official PlayStation Magazine and Joystiq.com, to name a few. He's a wealth of knowledge of SEGA, and the video game industry as a whole, and we can't wait to see what exciting articles he has in store for the Mega Visions faithful.

We've got 12 days left, so any and all help would be definitely appreciated. You guys are a great bunch \:D/

Would you be interested in any contributions? I've written a series of articles on Yu Suzuki and Tetsuya Mizuguchi on Medium which I've shared here: https://medium.com/@MoosaviAmir

We're definitely gonna have the community be an integral part of the magazine. You've got some great writing skills though, Amir. You could write for the SEGA Nerds site in your spare time if you'd like.

I'm definitely pledging as soon as I get paid (next Thursday and yes, I'm aware of how Kickstarter charges you!) because I definitely want to get this awesomeness in my digital hands!

Mr. Martian, I recently took down my site I'd been running since 2014, where I hosted all of my reviews (all are posted on Gamefaqs), top 10s (ditto for those) and I did a monthly feature; it was an entirely Sega site, with many (I thought) interesting aspects of Sega, that I looked at.

Just to name a couple of things I did:

- Top 10 Series on, "What if Sega Made a Mascot Brawler?" I made top 10s on how a Smash Bros.-like game could be conceived with all Sega stuff.
- Created a Sega Periodic Table of Characters (which took me FOREVER), where all of the characters correspond with the chemical notations of the real table.
- Let's Plays (of sorts, as I don't speak or really do anything other just footage, uploaded on YouTube) of 5 unknown/underrated Genesis Platformers (New Zealand Story is friggin' hard), the entire Phantasy Star Series on SMS and Genesis, all 3 Shenmue titles back-to-back-to-back, plus others.
- Top 10s of the best games ever developed by the AMs.

And more. While I wouldn't be able to contribute a lot and consistently, I would absolutely LOVE to write a couple of pieces here and there, if possible (should've screenshotted my site before taking it down :().

Sorry to derail the thread but if I can help, I would love to. Can't wait to see this Kickstarter get funded! :D
