Wanted to share with you one joy of parenting.

Getting rid of annoying songs like "The Wheels On The Bus" or "Old MacDonald Had A Farm" that your toddler usually screams desperatly for, is priceless.

My two and a half years old son fell in love with Shenhua's lullaby :king:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WcfD33NkxMY

He usually wants to watch and listen to it 2-3 times before lying down, relaxing and saying good night.

That's not the only Shenmue music he listens to. The OST plays daily at home.
His favorite track seems to be "Departure on a New Trip". Probably because of the choirs and drums.

I hope I'm not a disgraceful father... but as a Shenmue fan, I'm delighted

Are you planning on putting him in some kind of martial art when he's older? (Serious question)

I swear, and not even as a fanboy, I absolutely cannot wait until the very near future when this piece of shit wannabe gaming sudo-celebrity gets absolutely proven the fuck wrong when he sees what Shenmue 3 really looks like. Let them all be smug and laugh over the Kickstarter concept video. He, and all the haters have absolutely no idea what's about to drop, and punch them clean on the jaw.

Sorry... Jeff Asshat is a dudebro gamer who fundamentally lacks the ability to appreciate high art like Shenmue.

No matter how awesome Shenmue 3 is, Jeff Asshat will just go "meh" drink his mountain dew and continue playing Call of Duty.

If he shows interest in martial arts, definitely. I did pratice Karate for 20 years and loved both physical and spiritual aspect of it. Shenmue (imo) could be a good way to show him the "values" of Martial Arts.

@ShenGCH Carrots eating is a sore point actually. It's to soon too show him the Iwao speech though... but it may come

I don't agree with Jeff (obviously), but I don't think it's fair to pigeonhole him like that.

What I have a problem with are the people who think he (or any other gaming personality) is the bastion of good taste, when really everybody has fucked up, weird, divisive preferences in games, movies, books, whatever.

EDIT: As a positive spin, Peter's comments are fiery but inspiring. After all, he's probably seen a lot we haven't. ;)

I disagree.. Jeff seems like the kind of guy who would say that his favorite restaurant of all time is McDonalds.

His favorite TV show of all time is WWF Wrestling.

He favorite beer of all time is Budweiser

His favorite book of all time is.. well he doesn't read books!

His favorite sport of all time is Nascar

His favorite movie of all time is Halfbaked.

And his LEAST FAVORITE game of all time is obviously Shenmue.

If Jeff Gurstman had the opportunity to have Dinner with Yu Suzuki.. he'd probably opt to stay home with his X-BOX and a bag of weed and some Mountain Dew (code-red baby!)

The meaning of these notes on the wall of his room is typical Fuku-san.

Never noticed this before, but Fuku-san looks as if he's going through a photo album of pictures he's taken of peoples' bedroom windows

Shenmue is not just entertaining (that is, as a new kind of interactive digital/virtual entertainment),
it's also soul-fulfilling (sapienti sat).

And some thoughts as an answer to closed-minded gaming-journalists and the vast majority of a certain type of gamers:
Some journalists criticize Shenmue by saying that it doesn't have a lot to
offer in gaming terms, and that they could perform the same activities in real
life. But that's exactly the point. To live (almost) a second life, different to
your own, while being immersed in a lifelike/believable world. To experience
it viscerally, with a gut feeling that you are organically one with what is being
shown on the screen. Yu Suzuki and AM2 created it based on standards of
the real world, and not as a video game. Players who prefer and are used to
'proven', traditional ways of gaming entertainment, of course, will disdain it.
Most of them come with a closed mind on what a video game should and
could be. Like there is a certain recipe that needs to be followed in order to
provide an accepted interactive entertaining experience. Their standards are
like a round hole and Shenmue is like a square peg. The easiest solution: to
mock it and its appreciators (as fanboys, lunatics, etc). The Shenmue series
is a new kind of entertainment. Almost two decades later, the vast majority
of players can't get why it is beloved, or, they do, but they can't stomach this
fact. They can't get that a game... is not like a game, and that, despite that,
people are still enchanted/entranced by it. At the end of the day, what makes
it seem empty for a lot of gamers is what makes it a unique, rich, natural,
and personally soul-fulfilling experience for others (even non-gamers).
