Top quality games journalism. I mean really amazing work.

The guys at Kotaku are fucking idiots lol that is all it boils down to. To be honest, when you look at most gaming "journalism" its all the same. I left all those sites in the dust and only use Dualshockers now because they only post the facts (the comments there are less stupid too... kinda).

Kotaku with the first dagger. Prepare for a lot of this. I truly feel bad for Yu Suzuki, but I think he'll pull it off in the end.

I vowed a couple years ago (or something like that) to stop giving Kotaku clicks. They're only out for the clicks these days, just like all the other worthless media.

Anyone who thinks that trailer looked like 'ass', is, quite frankly, off their rocker, or had the most unrealistic expectations. It's really looking promising and looking like Shenmue.

As I said in the other thread, the trailer seems widely praised. A lot of people I know who had few or no interest in Shenmue so far felt in love with the atmosphere, the music and the beautiful environments.

Put finished faces and animation, Shenmue 3 will set the world on fire EASY.

A Shenmue III trailer, AND a positive Yokosuka post?

Am... am I dead? Is this some fantasy afterlife?

Ok... Just read the actual Kickstarter. Apparently the new logo was designed by Suzuki himself and if I read correctly, he painted it. This makes me kind of feel bad that I said it looks like a kid scribbled it on paper with a crayon.

That said, I stand by hating the new logo.

Shenmue, for the most part, revolves around China of the late 1980's. Yakuza is entirely based on modern-day Japan. Yes, Shenmue started in Japan and is centered on Japanese characters. Again, however, it's mostly Chinese.

When people compare the two series, what they're really doing is comparing Shenmue I with the entire Yakuza series. All they need to do to see the difference, though, is to delve into Shenmue II.

That's why I find it surprising that someone that should have some sort of knowledge of these games and the industry made such an offensive statement. I may also be going overboard here, but I sense something disgustingly prejudicial (read: orientalist) about his comment as well.

This thing with the logo is confusing me to no end. I thought they were going to stick with the old one. I just didn't know that he seemed to have actually designed it himself.

I don't mean to be disrespectful by no means, but, are people being able to read the logo that serious of an issue for him?

Luke Plunkett... I remember this guy mainly because of this

Why does Kotaku and Polygon attracts the worst of gaming "journalists"?

Because games journalism is for people who couldn't be film critics. And film critics are people who couldn't be literary critics. And literary critics are people who couldn't be writers.

I'm mostly kidding, but games journalism is so far down the rung when it comes to meaningful, insightful, understanding, exciting, or entertaining content. Most articles are just bargain-basement tier forum posts with a megaphone attached. See: Kotaku's Shenmue III article from today. The good stuff drowns in a sea of shit, but at least some quality writers are smartening up and just writing books instead of long-form article series that get unceremoniously buried under the clickbait of the day.

I hesitate to even call Plunkett's soapbox an article. It's just the video and a shitty hot take. There are literally YouTube comments with more insight.

Gaming jornalists are pretty much bloggers that liked videogames but got bored about it (and their life probably) after becoming "pros", and just try to be cynic fucks without having the intelligence or creativity to make it work and having a unique style.

It's weird because videogames industry is so big and the gamer is pretty involved in their hobby/medium, but their job it's not different from any random guy shitposting online, only that they're sour about it.

At the same time, I guess the traffic from gaming is so big they need to write "something" about anything, and they just try to frame a shitty "look at this trailer" news in a way to get some more attention.

Also videogaming critique it's quite in it's infancy, and games have quite a diverse language, that most critiques are regular gaming joe, gut feeling, pandering or purple prose. But I guess it's what you can call most of the critiques besides some more concrete mediums such as music.

A live stream of Gamescom can be watched here: http://theheartofgaming.de/live/

The Gamescom Twitter account is also posting regular updates.

Still no indication as to when/if we'll see anything Shenmue III related.

Day 0 of Gamescom has finished and no further Shenmue material. Will we see anything else during the main part of Gamescom?
