Birth of a Nation. Or what I saw of it before I gave up on it.

Stupid absurd racist revisionist history aside, it's not a very good film to watch. It's so slowly paced it puts you to sleep. From what I understand, it set the standards for a feature film narrative (even though i'd argue The Great Train Robbery did a better job at narrative, too bad it's only a short).

It's so hilarious to see that during the reconstruction, blacks would enslave the white South and treat them the same way they were treated as slaves...then the KKK are the "heroes" that liberate the nation once more. There are too many things wrong with that, I have no idea where to start. So I won't.

Kisses and Caroms.

The movie the book "Rebel Without a Deal" was chronicling. My god, it's fucking horrible. The acting is porn quality. The dialogue is abysmal. The pacing is crap. I think it's supposed to be a comedy, but fuck me if it is it's PAINFULLY unfunny. I'd forgive it if it had a good story, but it doesn't. It's so by-the-numbers and uninteresting. Christ, the cinematography was decent at least. As well as the sound.

I can see why people think it's a Clerks ripoff, it's a bunch of chatty cynical characters who have to deal with idiot customers time to time in a store. Except what they have to say is wholly uninteresting and not believable in the slightest.

black belt jones. kinda run-of-the-mill blaxploitation film, but really fun to watch, some amusing moments. black dynamite references it quite a bit too

Reconstruction was much different compared to the Jim Crow era. It was martial law in the south, and many freed black men joined the U.S. army. Thus, to white southern Democrats, now conquered, the Republican machine consisted of the north pitting an army of their former slaves against them. To them, it wasn't revisionist, but obviously the way it was, even if their irrational fears were also exaggerated.

Seven Psychopaths.

Seriously? I thought it was going to be about seven psychopaths. Not about a writer who's trying to pen a story about seven psychopaths for his next feature film. What a waste of a potentially good premise and waste of perfectly good actors.

Bullet to the Head (Stallone film). Considering it's a buddy action movie straight from the 80s/90s (even the hilarious cliche villains who chew the scenery in every scene) I found the ending pretty damn good and the last fight was...refreshing. Some of the dialogue was hilarious too. Kick ass movie, really enjoyed it.

Cast Away. Not as good as I remember, the island section should be twice as long as it is.

I've watched Django Unchained. It's definitely a decent movie, not his best in my opinion

The first half was a lot of fun, with great laughs all throughout (although some were a bit forced).
The second half just didn't pick up. The script was noticeably well written and thought-out, but the story just didn't escaladed naturally and eventually ended in a rather unfulfilling climax (if we can call it that).

Ultimately, I felt the story it told fitted more the pattern of a mini-series rather than a full-lenght movie. The movie really feels fragmented IMO

Probably the next movie I see after this anime-extravaganza will be the movie talked about above (The Exterminating Angel) since I hear it's surrealism at its best
