Gnome? KDE? Something else? Nothing?

I use KDE 4.3 at the moment. Just getting to know it. Up to now, I've never used anything but Gnome because I found it to be very easy to use. So far, I like KDE 4.3.

XFCE is my favorite I think. Very lightweight compared to gnome and kde, although slightly more buggy. You can get it as a distribution called Xubuntu or through a package manager.

I'm using Ubuntu 9.10 with Gnome, from 2 years.
KDE is nice, but my graphic card is too weak for KDE (work slow).

After trying KDE, I think I prefer Gnome. It's easier to use, in my opinion. Makes more sense to me. Also, I found the performance of KDE to be comparable to Gnome from the latest 4.3.3 release, at least on my computer. Huge improvement from 4.2.

Same. Also, I've tried xfce. Its not bad but it has no easy way to share folders in a network.

(sorry for my English)
My first Linux was XDSL (Damn Small Linux na konsolę Xbox1), which has worked on environmental fluxbox. The console had only 65MB of RAM and Intel Pentium III 733MHz, but Linux has worked well, but there have been problems with Firefox. Sometimes the system kill the process.

Another Linux, which I'm tested on this console was Gentoox (Gentoo ported to Xbox Console). With KDE3 and Xfce environment. XFCE it was fast, but awfully slow KDE.

On my PC first Linux was Ubuntu (two years ago) and still working.
Debian also tested (for five minutes, p) and OpenSUSE.

I like Gnome because is simple, I like things simple, that's why I'm playing on consoles rather than PCs. KDE4 is nice, but heavy, slower works than GNOME and has more complicated menus than GNOME. For weak PC the best is Fluxbox, it really works on weak machines. But you have to configure.

I like Linux because it gives the choice, it is not closed and it is legal. At this moment I have not even installed windows (from two years).

Isn't the Mac OSX based on Linux?

Also does Linux run pc games? Been wanting to try it out and maybe replace XP.

PC games are written for Windows that is known to run under Linux that will not. Games for the Wii will not work on PS3. But some games you can fire up the Wine. Some others do not go walking, sometimes in different ways. Not tested.

You can install Linux on another partition alongside Windows with the menu selection system. Windows using for gaming, and testing Linux.
The consoles are for games

http://appdb.winehq.org - this will show you the compatibility with wine of most games.

Another world will run fine with DOSBOX if thats the game I'm thinking about.

I think there's a program that runs on Ubuntu called crossover made specifically for playing windows games. It however is not free. You could also go the long route and create your own python scripts to allow those games to run.
