Some more details on the EU release of Yakuza 5, since it seems there won't be a preorder offer:

And since they haven't been posted yet, here are English-language screens and the official PS3 theme:

Since it coincides with tgs i guess it's probably for something we can only dream of getting.

It could be a localization of Yakuza 0. If they had a team doing Yakuza 5 it might have made sense for them just to continue on with the next game.

I finished Yakuza 5 recently and can see it is the best one of the series (haven't played 0 yet). The Yakuza games never drastically improve but the definitely get better a little with each one.

If it's a new Yakuza, it would be better to get a reboot or something. Replaying Kazuma is just getting repetitive.

Anyway, hope it's something new. Wish they'd give us something on Y0 localization, but i'm sure TGS would not be the place for it.

Is announcing western localisations at TGS a thing? I would have thought that a Japanese centred convention wouldn't exactly be the best place for that.

You mean the current story ark? Because past 3 we've played more as other characters than Kazuma.

The name of the image file is "button-new_title.jpg", so it pretty much looks like they're going to announce a new game.

So, what do you guys think it's going to be? Yakuza: Dead Souls 2? Because making the first one was such a great idea and not in any way stupid as hell at all?

I didn't play it, to be fair. But the concept just seems so incredibly silly and nonsensical to me. Let's throw zombies in there, they'll like it even more with zombies. Let's put zombies into Shenmue. Let's put zombies into Tetris. Zombies into Hydro Thunder. So random and weird. I don't get why they did that and how they could expect it to sell better than it did. :p

Edit: Hydro Thunder with zombies might actually work.

^^One of Nagoshi's intentions from the start with the Yakuza series was to create something that could lend itself to other genres as well. There are the main series games as the focus, but they could also do the occasional off-the-wall side project with it as well (which is why they did Kenzan and Ishin; dropping their established characters into the roles in a samurai story). I thought it was stupid at first too, but once I understood that it wasn't meant as part of the main series, I was totally open to it. And the game actually turned out to be pretty damn solid. Zombies might be done to death nowadays, but inserting them into a Yakuza-style story and gameplay framework felt surprisingly fresh.
I'd wholeheartedly recommend it if you like the series at all. It's pretty out-there, but the story is actually really good.
