Nintendo has announced a Wii U release date of December 8 in Japan.

The news was announced by Nintendo CEO Satoru Iwata during a Wii U webcast on the Japanese Nintendo Direct site, which the company also used to confirm a Wii U price tag of 31,500 yen (£252/$405) for a Premium model and 26,250 yen (£210/$338) for a Basic one.

The Premium model will come with a built-in flash memory capacity of 32GB, a Wii U GamePad, a Wii U GamePad stylus, a Wii U GamePad charging stand, a Wii U GamePad playing stand, a Wii U stand, an HDMI cable, and AC adapters for the system and controller.

The Basic model will offer a built-in flash memory capacity of 8GB, and the same contents as above minus the Wii U GamePad charging stand, Wii U GamePad playing stand and Wii U stand.

Nintendo also announced the first Wii U game prices, with New Super Mario Bros. U and NintendoLand set to be launch titles, plus prices for peripherals like the Wii U GamePad and Wii U Controller Pro.

The Japanese event will be followed up by a broadcast on the Nintendo Europe website at 3 p.m. (UK time), where full UK release and price info for Wii U is expected to be revealed.

The EU broadcast will run parallel with a New York press event where the Wii U US release date is also expected to be announced, with coverage taking place on the region's Nintendo Direct website.

The console will arrive November 18 in the US for $299 for Basic set, $349 for Deluxe. The UK will get the console on November 30, no price was revealed as retailers set their own price, however we are guessing based on the US price that we'll be looking at around 220-230 GBP for the basic and 250-275 GBP for the premium.

Bayonetta 2 as a Wii U exclusive. A kick in the balls just there!

Knowing Nintendo, they will make double, no, make that TRIPLE sure that it's a definitive Wii U exclusive. Then again, PG can always pull something along the lines of NGS2, which theoretically was a new game and went around the NG2 X360 exclusivity. It would be extremely ungrateful, though, as it's obvious that Nintnedo brought Bayo 2 from the dead after SEGA killed it.

One way or another, this announcement is sick.
Shenmue 3 as a Wii U exclusive is next.

Sick in an awesome way considering the best things about Wiiu are all ram and storage related which is actually the biggest thing you need for action games. (hence Ninja Gaiden 3 on it is actually playable)

Yeah, I saw Wii U's specs just before seeing the Bayo 2 teaser. Thought the same thing when I noticed that it has so much RAM (for a console). It would also do good to an open world game like SHAMOOOO 3. Suzuki, bent your ass before Iwata if you have to!!!

Of course, it's not up to him, but he should work as an ambassador and convince the famous Kyoto ninjas of Nintendo to make an assault on those fucktards at SEGA.

Sadly I think the reports that it was an SSD were wrong, but its flash based memory so it'll act the same way.

The CPU supports OOE and OOP too.

Nintendo’s president Satoru Iwata revealed some Wii U specs via the Japanese Nintendo Direct. He says that the system will include 2 GB of total system memory. 1 GB of memory will be available for games, while another 1 GB will be available for the Wii U operating system and background applications. 1 GB of memory for the OS is definitely a lot for a home gaming console — the current generation systems use about only 1/20th of that. Perhaps the OS includes a lot more than are we currently aware of. Or some of the background applications take up a lot of resources, such as Miiverse and its many features.
Nintendo also revealed that the system will consume only 75 W of power under full load, which is about half as much as current generation consoles from Microsoft and Sony. The power consumption drops to 40 W when used for menu, Miiverse and other non-gaming applications. The Wii U storage media is confirmed to be Blu-ray based and support up to 25 GB of data per disc, at 22.5 MB/s data transfer rate. Nintendo might reveal more Wii U specs tomorrow at the event in New York.

Seriously can't decide on launch games. Darksiders 2, Sega Racing 2, Mario Wiiu (I have a soft spot for Yoshi), Zombiu, and Ninja Gaiden 3

Not with the Kyoto ninjas. They would use that missile as a decoy and steal the Shenmue rights with everybody at SEGA being too busy mourning over Segata.
Then they would gather the remains of Segata and turn him into a cybernetic ninja.
