The game is amazingly solid in just about every way. The control is precise, glitches are extremely rare (apparently an unusual quality in modern shooters), the combination of shooting and traversal works together seemlessly (though, as you said, melee isn't particularly good) and, unlike many other cover shooters, the levels are designed in such a way as to encourage the use of all the abilities at your disposal, and keep the action moving at a quick pace, as it should. There's almost nothing about it that isn't solid.
Its a fun game made by people who had a passion for what they were doing. Nothing wrong with that. I honestly don't see what it ever did to incite such hatred from you toward it, besides being a shooter and being popular.[/color]

The game is amazingly unsolid in everything but the graphics. The controls feel half-baked, there are glitches that freeze the dam game (which created a drama on gamefaqs and other online communities like that back in the day), the combination of shooting and traversal works like shit because both elements are watered-down and the game doesn't have its own identity. To top it all, the levels are short for this gen's standards (PS3 couldn't handle anything bigger with these graphics anyway). Ironically, that fits the fact that you have so little abilities at your disposal. The whole thing is saved only by the fact that it's fast-paced and an average Joe just runs thorough it blindly, without seeing how shitty the game really is. There's almost nothing about this game that isn't terribly overhyped.

If U2 - an awful shallowness coming in a shiny box - is glorified this gen, then it's no wonder that everything is only getting worse and worse in this industry.

Yeah, I know, it means he knows that ins and outs of it.

But I still don't have to agree at all.

No one has to, obviously.

He's harsh on words (wouldn't be himself otherwise) but I will say I agree on the fact that the cinematic quality and production values are what the Uncharted games have going for them. The series may be polished to a point but it really is pretty bare bones (concept/gameplay) when you look at it.

It has it's place and audience but the games are wrongly glorified.
Same goes for many popular titles these days: solid genre games with adrinaline ridden set pieces that get praise like if they were ground breaking or the works of geniuses.

Then I don't know what groundbreaking is, it must not exist then.

Shenmue, the original MGS (also/or the very first Metal Gear on the MSX), the first Zelda and the first Metroid, Space Harrier, Wolfenstein 3D and all that remarkable lot are groundbreaking.

Uncharted raises the bar of the AAA games in terms of production.

Very different things.

Just to be clear, I was never making the point that it was innovative or ground breaking in any way. It absolutely isn't, at all. It takes elements from other games and runs with them. I simply think it executes those ideas extremely well, and can't think of another game that necessarily does the same things better.
If it's been glorified by people as something completely original and innovative, then I suppose I can understand others having certain feelings against it. But that still doesn't diminish its ability to incite (in most audiences, at least) an excellent sense of excitement and fun.
That's what I love it for. Not speaking for anyone else.
And I don't generally hold hype against a game as a detractor. If the game weren't hyped at all but were still exactly the same, I don't think anyone would be arguing against it like this.

^^Always meant to get that. Looked really interesting.
Is it as bleak and apocalyptic as the visuals suggest?

Yep, its not SMT in terms of presentation, but it tries to be and does something interesting because of that.

When done right [GTA IV, Red Dead Redemption, Alan Wake, Dragon Age Origin to name a few] Its awesome. Problem is too many are abusing it.

HD ports of Timesplitters 2 and Killer Instinct were planned a few years back to test demand for new games

I know the history of Baroque, first on the Saturn then on Ps2, but how good and accessible is it?

Plus, does the Wii accepts SD HC (high capacity) Cards?

It does.

Baroque is not a game for a weekend. It's quite complex and hard, and based on creating an eerie atmosphere at the cost of accessible gameplay.

I wanted to buy it for a long time now, but it disappeared from Polish auction sites (it was very cheap while it appeared on them).
