looks pretty small to me, the lower part has no windows so I'm pretty certain it doesn't have any cabins, also it doesn't look like a passenger boat but rather something that would be used for trade purposes, the reason why it was so cheap, if I understand well it was common occurrence back then for people to buy cheap tickets on trade boats to travel for cheaper, from what I can tell if you assume there are only cabins on the top part they could fit 30 very tight ones

The only thing is it doesnt have any of the characteristics of a specific type of trading boat. No crates are on it, qnd from what i have looked into its just an old version of an 80s "Ro-Ro ship" which just ferries passengers from Yokosuka to Aberdeen. I have sent a few emails to some maritime enthusiasts to confirm this, and also if they could provide any links or advice regarding 1980s vessels (interior layouts, exterior characteristics, load capacity, popilar Asian routes).

Also sent a few messages asking for the translation of the Kana on the side of the ship.

true but the main reason I believe it's a small trading boat is because of how dirty it is, I would like to believe a passenger boat circulating between the tokyo metropolitan Area and hong kong would be bigger and have a better upkeep, my guess is that the storage is in the lower part of the boat and is mostly filled with small crates containing goods and maybe food, they use the side door which you can see in the video for loading, of course I'm no expert and it might just be a very poorly maintained and small ferry, but the amount of cabins it suggests having would barely be able to support 20 people outside of the crew which wouldn't make it profitable at all

Yea, if it is a below deck trading ship then its gonna be real hard to pinpoint the exact type, make and manufacturer of a ship that seemingly the ship in Shenmue is based upon. What makes it way harder is the era the game is set in and also the language transition to internet searches etc. It isnt easy at all, but i will keep on digging.

I can't offer much because I've got a lot on my plate, but I can help with logistical and algorithmic code for whoever decides to take things on.

engines are nearly identical when speaking of quality of product, we're using unity because it's popular, it has a strong community, lots of free tutorials and prefabs...
