Sony suing Jerry Lambert AKA Kevin Butler

In contract or out, I think Sony is pulling a dick move by sueing someone who promoted the brand so well for them.
The Kevin Buttler character turned sony into one of the best game advertizers over night and all they have for him in the end is a suit and negative PR. Smooth. Its not like their even using him anymore these days. I think most TV viewers wouldnt remember him as the playstation guy anymore anyways.
Sony could have also kept Kevin Buttler in their back pocket for future PR and advertizing but now that relationship is deffinitely over. Poor guy probably has nothing better to do then commercials these days since thats his experience. How unfortunate that companys value money over people these days.

Sony over used him IMO. They had something good and managed to ruin it in about 3 ads. But yes they released him from the contract so really as long as his not actually doing the KB act i don't see the problem. Like i said Sony have big problems right now.

Lawyers are to blame for crap like this. Sony thinks they can trademark Lambert's likeness as "Kevin Butler", which is nonsense since it would prevent him from working for anyone else. Sony can't do that unless there is a non-compete clause in Lambert's contract

Ok so actually their needs to be some clarification to this suit. Apparently Lambert himself isnt being sued at all. It's Sony suing "Bridgestone and Wildcat creek inc"

Sony via Kotaku wrote:Sony Computer Entertainment America filed a law suit against Bridgestone and Wildcat Creek, Inc. on September 11. The claims are based on violations of the Lanham Act, misappropriation, breach of contract and tortious interference with a contractual relationship. We invested significant resources in bringing the Kevin Butler character to life and he's become an iconic personality directly associated with PlayStation products over the years. Use of the Kevin Butler character to sell products other than those from PlayStation misappropriates Sony's intellectual property, creates confusion in the market and causes damage to Sony.

Sites like Kotaku and others seem to be stating that Jerry Lambert himself is being sued when they make titles that say "Kevin Butler Actor Sued For “Creating Confusion” and “Causing Damage” to Sony"
Which is false. This doesnt involve Sony suing Lambert directly, just the company that hired him for the commercial.
Shit like this is why I hate blog and news sites sometimes. Their just in it for more clicks and visits to up their advertizing revenue.
*coughgamespotreviewscough"

Still very stupid of Sony and money grubbing. But I have way less of an issue with one company suing another. Seems more like fair game at this point no matter how stupid it actually is. Cause thats 'Merica yall!

Lambert is the owner and president of Wildcat Creek. Looks like this suit explains why Lambert was digitally removed from the Bridgestone ad before being taken off air altogether..

Yeah the Kotaku article says he registered Wildcat Creek.

The funny thing is he pretty much played KB in Every Body Loves Raymond minus the Sony head.

If he was still under contract during the time of filming that ad, they're well within their rights, and I don't blame them for doing it. Case in point, Wayne Rooney was being paid millions to be one of the many faces of Coca-Cola, then he appears on live TV drinking Pepsi.

I don't care what anyone says, when you're being paid to be the face of a certain product, to then turn around and promote a rival product is bang out of order. He may not have been under contract when the ad was released, but if he was during filming, then they should pull out all the stops to claim back any money they paid him.

End of the day, the guy's retarded for doing it anyway.

He isn't under contract. He's an actor so he has to pay the bills and he isn't being sued. Bridgestone is

Actors sometimes have stipulations that they cannot advertise a rival product for a certain period of time even after said contract has ended.

Exactly. It's like if Daniel Craig was on TV wearing a tuxedo and blatantly drinking a pint of Carling.

I knew Bridgestone were a big tyre company, but a quick Wiki makes it look like they could afford to pay for lawyers a lot longer than Sony could...
