Translation

Postby MiTT3NZ » Sun Nov 11, 2012 3:32 am

Something for our multilingual members...

When it comes to translating languages, does it usually work out best for Language A to be translated by someone who natively speaks Language B, or should it always be a collaborative effort between someone who natively speaks Language A & fluent in Language B and someone who speaks Language B & fluent in Language A? I'm quite certain that it should never be done solely by someone who natively speaks Language A and is fluent in Language B.

Can I get any clarification regarding the matter?

Las riquezas artificiales, a su vez, sólo se buscan en función de las naturales. No se apetecerían si con ellas no se compraran cosas necesarias para disfrutar de la vida. Por eso tienen mucha menos razón de último fin. Es imposible, por tanto, que la bienaventuranza, que es el fin último del hombre esté en las riquezas.

Google is decent for rough translations, I'm talking actual localisation of content.

in my experience it's best to have a native speaker translate in to a language he is fluent in, that way he can recognise slang or certain dialects in his own language while translating them in to a more formal wording in the language that he learned

So should it then be looked over by someone who natively speaks the language it's being translated into?

depends what it is really, if it's a formal document then no need if the translator is fluent, if it's like a play or something that involves dialects then yes so the native speaker can make small changes for it to be more authentic
